Im disappointed... i think they should have done more updates rather than just go onto a second one. I agree, the 2nd looks awsum but.... its far too early. L4D 1 just came out last year!!! :@

Very interesting interview here. It explains why Valve have done this. Well worth a read.

Interesting read.

Quote:
to the pleasure of Left 4 Dead fiends, Valve announced a full sequel to its zombie shooter on Monday, set for a quick turn-around release on November 17.

Load of rubbish here. Loads of people have been raging about this.

Quote:
Shack: Why did you decide to package the game as a full sequel, rather than DLC?

Chet Faliszek: So one of the things is, when we're looking at a map--

Oh dear.....

Quote:
Looking at Left 4 Dead 1, we have updates still coming out for it.

Very good news

Quote:
Shack: So full price?

Doug Lombardi: Yeah. At the end of the day, this is going to be a bigger game than Left 4 Dead. It's five campaigns versus four, all five are playable in Versus mode, Survival mode out of the box, the new multiplayer game mode. Plus over 20 new weapons and items. It's a full sequel.

More oh dear.... They said we would have over 10 new weapons in the last one and people still debate whether they lied to us on that. From the looks of things they already have the same standard weapons from left 4 dead just with different skins and models. They better not be pulling that number out their ass.

Quote:
four vs. four matchmaking come out, and that's actually going to come out in Left 4 Dead 1, and that should be.. probably this month?

Good news.

Quote:
The Charger is a winner. We've got another one that we're almost done with that's good as well. There's a third coming out.

2 new infected along with the charger is sounding pretty good. Should be interesting in versus mode.

Quote:
Shack: Is there a chance we could see the original Left 4 Dead campaigns imported into Left 4 Dead 2?

Chet Faliszek: There is a chance for that. Like Doug said, we're trying to figure out the way that makes the most sense for that to happen.

So basically Left 4 Dead 1 will become pointless....

As fun playing left 4 dead was it got tiring after a while. Survival mode didnt really last long and the only thing that is really keeping the game alive at the moment is versus mode. Hopefully with these new infected the sequel will be able to last a lot longer. Campaign mode is never played by anyone anymore as there is no reason to besides people who want to get the expert mode achievements. This new game mode better be very good as well. It would be nice to say that people wont buy the same game within a year yet people do it all the time with games like Madden and Fifa....

Wow, some well informed arguments here, I'm starting to like this forums alot.

It does seems strange for valve, but I trust them, and to be fair getting TF2 for only £13.99 a year ago makes it worth it for me alone. In a podcast from rock paper shotgun, Chet Falizek (wrong spelling?) said that any community maps made for l4d or l4d 2 would work on either which is good news, for the mappers so that there not having to release it twice.

A comment somewhere said they could have avoided all this by simply calling it l4d: New orleans , but there seems to be alot of rage from people at the moment but either way I will most likely buy l4d2.

When I read about Left 4 Dead 2 I instantly felt betrayed. The more I've read about it, that feelings grown stronger.
Are Valve losing they're sense of awesome? First the random weapon drops in TF2 and now this...

I really do think they will provide some form of discount for L4D1 owners through Steam, especially because of the redundancy thing.

Also, I think the maps are backwards compatible, IE L4D1 maps will run on L4D2, but not the other way round. L4D2 adds new features such as changeable environments, which don't need to be there to work (hence L4D1 compatibility) but can be there (hence no reversal of L4D2 specific maps).

Well that quote proves I fail with English. ^^'

I suppose they could still work with l4d (1) if the map maker specificed that on l4d one there would be only one route or a couple. Although how would the new stop shiva stacking final event work.

I'm going to give Valve a chance, I trust they will do the right thing (in this case, probably making L4D2 cheap for L4D1 owners).

You should see the chat room. O_O

On a more related topic (the chat room contained everything but), PC Gamer UK had a very interesting preview of Left 4 Dead 2. Seems they got to play it, and it is definitely looking promising. There is lots more gore. Lots more. Dynamic limb dismemberment and the like.

This is a joke

Valve has a prooven track record with sequels, you want to boycott it?

How about you go boycott EA instead. OH WAIT

Double standards suck people.

I avoid most the EA sequels, but then again, they are usually sports games or The Sims.

As for this, I agree, I'll be giving Valve a chance, I'm just hoping for a discount. I'll probably buy it anyway, My hours/£ top whatever are all Valve games.

I'm not boycotting it, merely pointing out the things said are valid points also. It's all very well to say valve are awesome, say something to EA but you have to look at both sides ;)

btw, this took aout 20 mins of editing to correct as fyi ive just got back from night out ;p and it's bl;pdy diffficulut at that! :D.

L4d2 does look good but i cant help but think the poitns raised in the comunity thing :)

Quote:
* Significant content for L4D1 was promised, and never delivered

ZOMG, instead it's done for L4D2, L4D1 still has more support than most games released, oh, did i mention backwards compatibility?

Quote:
* Valve put little faith in L4D1 since they almost certainly started working on L4D2 right after release

Just because they started working on a sequel, doesnt mean they have no faith in it, dear god, these people have no idea about how games are made, and seem to think they are done from start in 6 months, how many companies start work on a sequel soon after the first one is succesful?

Quote:
* The fact that L4D2 is nearly identical to L4D1 will decimate the community for both games

Expansion packs say hi!

Quote:
* The announced date is not nearly enough time to polish content or make significant gameplay changes

True point, the release date is VERY soon, but that doesn't mean it can't be polished, we'll just have to wait and see, oh and also, sort of contradicts the other statement, you need to start working on a game ASAP to polish it, so what, you dont like polished games? Double standards suck, stop trying to find something to moan about.

Quote:
* The new character designs seem bland and unappealing so far
* L4D2 is too bright to fit in with L4D1's visual aesthetic
* The fiddle-based horde music is extremely disliked, though the differently orchestrated music is otherwise welcome
* L4D2's release will result in a drop in quality and frequency for L4D1 content, even compared to before

Opinions are a <FEMALE DOG>, state some facts.

Quote:
* The community has lost faith in Valve's former reputation for commitment to their games post-release

Oh hello there mister mind reader.

No, just no, whoever made this page is a bloody moron, because apart from one point(maybe two) it's entirely stupid. It's blatantly obvious it's made because someone just wants to moan, not because there are actually any good reasons to boycott this, and everyone is jumping the bandwagon, seriously, come on. I don't see any good questions, there are other things you want to worry about a LOT more, but when you're trying really hard to hate something(OMG I HATE THE MUSIC, BOYCOTTTTTTTTTT), you're doing something wrong.

People have gotten spoiled from team fortress 2 :S I mean they just sold it for £6.99 for all that stuff £6.99 is daylight robbery on the customers part.

I'd buy it if they just needed some money. But it will most likely be good. And I bet they give away a demo / free weekend to put some doubts at rest.

Either way I want it now!
