Anyone know howto make it so when the user clicks on a link, apicture appears in a set place, like on eBay (thumbnails thing).

It's going to replace the current picture system on this site, so it would also be good if it could change the caption aswell (though this isn't completely necessary, as I can modify the picture to have it intergrated).

its a javascript i think, ill look and see what i can find, i know that theres a flash version of it but its file size is quite large!

an alternative is a table/popup version like i used with my vista preview

I want the user to stay on the same page.

I could probably make the flash myself, but that would be too much maintence (having to keep changing the file for each page).

Oh, and I would prefer not to have to use more frames!

Strangely, it's Firefox this time that comes out with errors - it doesn't update the IMG ALT attribute correctly, so the button actually needs to be pressed twice.

OK, here's the fix. Looks like Firefox doesn't like changing the SRC and the ALT of the image at the same time... So I put a timeout of 1ms in between the actions, and it works great!

Please note that I have created the table in JavaScript, but if it is OK to use PHP then this can be changed easily. I added a few more comments for you, also.

I modified this so that it makes a paging system (showing lots of images takes up far too much room).. This one is easy to add to and manipulate.. works a treat.. IN INTERNET EXPLORER ONLY! And this time, IE really is a nob-jockey, because it doesn't understand display:table-row, instead I have to use display:block, but this screws up Firefox. There are ways around it, sure, but I'll wait til IE7 comes out to fix this. I could test it, but I'm not at home, so don't have it here.
