I want to make my own pictures for the TF2 Class icons. (The ones in the bottom left indicating what class your playing). How would I go about changing them.
(And before I get lmgtfy'd I know people in the clan do this kind of stuff so I thought it best to go to the inhouse experts)

Maybe download a pack from FPSB and see how they're done? I get the impression it could just be getting the right directory structure or something, could be completely wrong, though.

I know there is already at least one or two replacements of the icons, and I expect Si already knows that.

The icons you want will be in the materials directory in the materials GCF for Team Fortress 2. I suggest looking in the (I think it's called this) VGUI folder.

EDIT:

No doubt when you locate the files you want, they will be in VTF format.

Right, I don't know if you have photoshop. I don't, so I'll tell you how I have been editing VTF files.

First, get Paint.NET: http://www.getpaint.net/

Then get the VTF plugin for it: http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?c=225&o=0

I suggest saving the file as a TGA then editing it in the Gimp (as I believe you prefer the Gimp to Paint.NET. The Gimp does have more features.

Which classes were you thinking of changing? Only Demoman and Spy are the ones that need updating as far as I am aware. The rest seem fine.
(Demoman is mirrored, Spy is wearing his beta uniform)

To make my own skybox and cart textures I HAD to understand how the original ones worked. You cannot just make new ones with no knowledge at all of what you are trying to replace.

I think the point was more the oh lets replace old ones cos they suck and everyone thinks they can out do valve or something.
