I am lazy. I need either a job or Uni. Uni will involve debt. My parents will not help with funding towards that (understandably).

Job searching is depressing. I am at sea with regards to sorting Uni out.

Aside from a few minor efforts all I do is play games. I've got myself signed out of Steam, Xfire, msn, etc to avoid people talking to me.

I need advice, I don't know what to do. I'm not sure what talents I have that I could use to build on a career or university course.

I play computer games, I play the piano, and I talk quite a bit. And occasionally I have ideas. That's it.

I would greatly appreciate any advice from you guys. I really would.

I think I've already been through everything with you. Get a job, get some money, go to uni. Just find something you want to do and go with it.

I don't have anything specific I want to do aside from those same aims. Job applications always get rejected anyway. Uni, I have a vague idea for a course but I'm really concerned about the debt and running out of money.

What can I do? Games do not equal a career, I need skills I can focus on to build a life. Even if I get a job, I want to be doing something I enjoy that also teaches me.

If you want to do Uni, just keep looking for a course, you will find one.
Schlurbi does have a point, shit job == a job so thats a start, plus once you have one its not for life right? You can move later.

I don't want to get stuck in a bad job, unable to pull away.

And I'm not that good at music Ash, I can play piano up to Grade 7, but I don't know many pieces. I mean, Shadow is much better than me and he hasn't had any lessons!

I don't think music would be a viable career.

If you get a part time job you can make some cash to make your life easier. Also counts as work experience.

Oh, and please, don't ever do the "xyz is better than me, therefore I'm no good" thing, it really doesn't help you.

I need things that I'm good at. Other than games, talking and moaning. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm not good at judging myself.

if you get even a crappy job, that you don't enjoy, you get some money and then you have a job previously as well (which helps a lot with more jobs that you have the experience).

You like computers, save up for one of those comp courses like on the TV, get a future job working with them! ^^

basically, decide what u wanna do (uni is a fantastic time and id reccomend to anyone) - then go out and do it, you're easilly clever enough and awesome enough to accomplish it and I know you can do it :D

a friend of the family started working in McDonalds and he's now a national gymnastics coach (I know him because my sister in no.1 in GB for her age group :O - she wants to go to 2012 as well :D), he did the courses in his spare time whilst holding down that crappy job. He didn't enjoy it but he knew he could go onto better things - and he has.

You have to know yourself that you're clever, skilled in what you enjoy doing etc. Because you are! There's always someone better, so forget about that, it's not productive

I never think of myself as better, I think, because I fear it will lead to arrogance. I will not become an arrogant blind fool who isn't any good yet says he is. I will not go there. Never.

I also, don't think I'd be comfortable at a place like McDonalds. I've never been in one before in my life, let alone wanted to work in one.

McDonalds is just an example really. Have you tried a work agency place at all? They generally find you a job - maybe not the best job in the world, but it's a start.

And knowing that you're good at something certainly doesn't make you arrogant - Skillers knows he's good at physics, aaron knows he's good at his job, etc. etc. They're not arrogant about it, but you have to be confident in yourself to know that you're good at what you're doing :)

Tried a few. They never came back to me. Ever.

What am I good at? I can play games on computers, that's about it.

You have good logic skills and are persistent. I know this because you are good in Hammer. Both are good qualities in a job and especially in interviews.

Many places in Gloucester are screaming for employees. My brother has been out of work and living on the streets for the last 5 years and picked up a job in the first day of looking at a callcentre in Claridge House. You can and will do the same! Except, don't do the living on the street part because people start fearing for your life.

Side note: I care about you and want you to do well. In a non gay way. We're all meeting up on Saturday 28th March at Pizza Hut for some sort of birthday thing, so come along and we'll have a good chat about stuff there.

Right, I'm here Metritutus so hear me out.
Your point about me being better than you at piano isn't true. I'm not a great pianist, I can just play a few pieces. I am flattered that you consider me to be better than you but you are very wrong indeed.
With your skill at piano I might suggest you look in restaurants and pubs. They may have a piano that you could play for them during lunch times and evenings to the customers and get paid for it as well as free drinks and meals.
Another suggestion is to follow Wynney/Skillers/Si/Schlurbi etc's advice over McDonalds or something because it is a job at least that secures you some income which you can save for uni etc.
And finally, even if you do keep failing, you MUST keep trying! Nobody got anywhere by giving up and falling by on the wayside. KEEP TRYING and you shall succeed. If at first you don't succeed, try try try again!
I hope you find this advice useful.

Your most faithful servant,
Shadow

God. just shut up met, seriously, just do it. I don't mean that as in you're annoying, but you keep talking bad about yourself, get an ego, it WILL help in the long run, you need to get some confidence, and really, any job will do, it will look good on your CV, i worked at McDonald's for a month during the summer break, the pay wasn't any good, nor was the work fun but it was work.

If you want to go to uni you can consider a part-time job, it will help with the costs, and it will count as work experience like Si said, any job is a good job and money is money, you can't be picky about jobs, just keep trying, maybe take some temporary jobs as well. You can get something, you just have to really keep looking and not give up no matter how many times you fail.

+1 Very true. And I'm glad people realise this :)

He speaks the truth. I have a massive ego, I wouldn't be the same without it, or anywhere near as successful. Thinking for victory leads to it, honestly.
