I'm in the middle of DLing it atm, so Ill give my judgement later :) Havent played a DoW game before... So I don't really know what to expect ^^

It's pretty poor tbh :/ I hate the squad based thing, the total lack of being able to construct any base defences, units costing a totally prohibitive amount of money to produce...

The list goes on :/ This demo has def put me off buying the game. Its not what I would call an RTS.

I was playing with Bombay, he beat me both times :/ But we worked out the node things do feck all to how much money you get in total... for the majority of one of the matchs I only had one, and he had the rest, by the end of the 30ish min game, there was only a difference of 300 between our collections of resources. Eldar seem ridiculously overpowered though, being able to teleport, have multiple heroes AND the Avatar :/ It took me 4 Carnivexes AND my leader guy with it being shot by some other things that make stuff easier to damage to even dent the damned thing :/

DoW is not a unit spam game, DoW2 is even less so.

The nodes do make a difference to money, but the base money is still quite high. You need the power ones quite badly, though.

The squads are good, IMO, you have to think about what you build because they cost a lot of money.

You can build base defences if you are a Techmarine or a Mekboy.

The lack of basebuilding means the game is fast and all about tactics, rather than who can sit there the longest and build the biggest army (though professional CnC is good to watch, lots of tactics there).

Also, if you define RTS by CnC you are wrong, quite simply, Real Time Strategy. IMO, DoW2 has far more strategy aspect to it than any CnC.

Eldar are quite powerful, but I wasn't aware of any ability to have multiple heroes and games rarely get to the stage where avatars can be built.

Dave remember this is beta, things may be subject to change.

I do agree the eldar are overpowered honestly. Not so much because of the webway gates but the avatar but it could have been easily rectified by simply having other race superunits. Like ork squiggoth? maybe a couple of tyranid biovores (an artillery unit that shoots 3 types of mines) to give tyranids a long range advantage especially vs the avatar.

I'm still thinking of the space marines possibly super unit.....actually they have a tank stronger than the predator that would be good vs well alot but cost alot too....

I think it's a shame the unit tree is no different for each hero in a race, like mek boy should have more tank options whilst warboss should have nobs and maybe the squiggoth.

just my views on it.

It might be good to have more units, especially strong ones for each race. Though I personally don't think the Avatar is OP, it costs so much that it very rarely gets to the point where you can happily build one. If you let the enemy have enough reprise to build an avatar without having anything to counter it (another avatar or long range tankbuster weapons) you are going to lose anyway.

Yes, I agree, I personally just chose a leader for their combat skills, they're just another unit to me (I haven't got to actually using powers much yet). Some unit diversity would be good, especially with the current small amount of units. Also, maybe the units could change a little bit depending on leader - an attack leader has more powerful units, healer has more health etc.

well the avatar is OP currently, but thats why i said it's be balenced.....or maybe just fair to give other races super units too :/.

Well, really, it takes a long time to get 1000 resources together, by that time you could quite easily push them a long way back if they're not producing other units, and gain a serious upperhand that an avatar may be able to counter. I seriously rarely get to build an avatar.

Still, it's probably a bit OP, but then again it is fairly slow and very expensive, and it's attack is fairly average for a melee tank-killer with some special powers and lots of health.

Avatar needs to be powerful. as Skillres said its very hard to build costing huge amount of resorces, you can only have 1 and it takes up a lot of cap points.
Its a living manifestation of the Eldar war-god, Khaine and the only thing in the eldar arsenal that can take a beating. all other eldar units have (or should have) relatively low hp compared to there alien counterparts and are hence fragile.
at the very least all other races are more versatile, so Eldar need something with a bit more kick to make up

Yeah, the Prism Tanks get completely owned by any melee tank. The wraithlords are a lot better, being designed for close up battle, but they are still outclassed, I think.

From what I saw of the Eldar (and the TWO Avatars I managed to kill) they didnt seem to die very quickely at all when confronted with Tyranid melee attacks. My Carnivex didn't even OHKO them. The wraith lord did get pretty hammered by the Carnivex though. Only took two or three shots to kill it. Eldar vehicles seem to be weak, but their infantry seems far more powerful than any of the Tyranid stuff I could come up with :/

The only thing I hate about the Avatar is it doesnt get affected by knockdown abilities, I was suing my Heros Sonic Scream (kinda like Yuriko's from RA3) to blast foes away, but the avatar wouldn't even budge. Also, it had about 7000hp :| and the Eldar can disable units which I am not aware of any other race being able to do :/

I was also dissapointed with the serious lack of units. Tyranids only had 8 different unit types, and 4 of those only spawned one at a time (Granted only one of them was any good as far as I could tell). I never even reached the population limit, and I only got to Bombays base once when chasing his hero with a Carnivex. But he'd always teleport away before I could get near him to do any real damage :/ I don't fully understand some of the unit powerups and stuff though atm :/ I assume equipping tyranids with long range weapons seems best O_o but they only have one or two slots available for upgrades :|

EDIT: YES I LIKE EMOTES

Eldar can disable units?

The eldar infantry are quite strong at range, but you will slaughter them up close.

Upgrading units is not a major part, but you can upgrade most big units for a bit of extra firepower or abilities. The Wraithlords have good upgrades.

Bombay kept disabling my hero and Carnivexes in the game we were playing... He was Eldar so I assume it is a trait of theirs. Even close up I wasnt even really scratching the Eldar infantry... atleast the Carnivex barely gets affected by small arms fire :)

Hmm, I could explain the hero - you can supress infantry and the eldar have some good supression weapons, but carnifexs I don't know about.

played as the tyranids. Carnafexes seem immune to supression and are massivly resistant to small arms! it would take more infantry to kill one of those than it would the avatar

No it really doesnt :/ Avatar > all infantry. Carnafex (Carnivex whatever lol), gets taken out by sniper fire and the Tyranids cant get people out of buildings :/

The eldar are over-powered, as they have made this game more small scale, the teleportation ablity gives the eldar a huge adv as they can easily survive any battle...unlike other races where they will lose a squad or so....and as units are so expensive eldar can easily save the resources needed for the avatar WHAT OWNS!.

Yeah, Carnifex is 550 points... and when you start to get to higher levels, the re-spawning of your hero is literelly like 1000 points anyway. If the Avatar is only 1000, it doesnt take that long to get the points to make one.

maybe not, but your sacraficing 2 tanks or 3 squads ish to save the money. very costly in a game as small scale at this. expecially when your enemy knows what they are doing.

Reviving a leader costs 250 or nothing if you have good teammates.

3 expert computers with three humans = easy

me and two normal bots vs 3 normal bots = us raeped o.0

No jokes we got raeped by 4 dreadnoughts and two killa khans (forget their wierd name now)

we couldn't produce troops they cleverly sat on our base and killed any thign that spawned allowing them to capture points :/ you couldn't get a resistance going. it was an epic fail >.<

That's because as 3 humans you get a chance to work as a team, and teamwork owns the bots. Shame they don't work better together :(

BTW, Bombay, you got owned so hard last night :P
