Nvidia will be making a return to the performance throne pretty soon when they release something called the Geforce GTX295, which is basically an updated version of the GX2 using GT200(b) chips.

It will definitely end up being a lot (by quite a margin) than the Radeon 4870X2, and Quad-SLI will definitely be possible on these chips.

They will be released in January 2009 around CES time.

ATI will not have a high end part to compete with GTX295 until at least Q3 2009.

So ATi are getting?

Yeah. I'm not too upset about it at the moment although I have had a little cry about it.

I guess I am still quite happy with my obviously outdated 2x 4870X2 setup and underpowered 3.4GHz 45nm quad-core. I mean why do I even bother using it? It's so rubbish.

guess it will be cheaper buying 2x 4780x2 than the new gtx295:P

It won't be that much faster, it will be better than a single, but not better than a double.

I wonder if the solder will start to melt when it gets really hot whilst in use.

Would not surprise me, it's not too far-fetched to be honest... Nvidia have a bump problem on their chips which cause them to crack when quickly put under stress.
