At the moment it is, but that could change, they could split it into combat and teamplay rank.
Any action that furthered your teams victory, like killing people, blowing stuff up, maybe capturing points etc would give you combat rank. This would unlock new combat based items for you, mainly guns.
Any action for the team, such as healing, driving people around etc would earn teamwork rank. This would unlock team based stuff, maybe things like calling for ammo drops (without commander, but limited in amount), airstrikes (maybe), better healing, flares and whatever isn't a weapon, really.

Of course, stuff like medic pointspamming would have to be counted, probably by lowering the points gained from it relative to other things.

Your way would not work. People would just cheat again.

It would have to be done entirely seperately in points and the easiest points gain for combat rank would be a medic. Losing that would annoy ALOT of people.

Your way you would have to just gain usualy points but 1 point per action (or set of actions to reduce spamming) to get the other points.

How would being a medic help something that requires you to kill for? Or do you mean it is now? If that is the case, that's what should be moved away from, make it require less kills per rank, but make it require KILLS. It would make more sense to me.

Also, points would have to be balanced to reduce spamming, like you can get lots of points for doing something harder than medic point spamming.

Ok your just explaining nothing but ways to spam.. Reducing points will anooy the hell out of people because it'll make it even harder to gain ranks than it was before..

Your GENERAL rank like Seargeant ect SHOULD come from all your points added up.. You don't gain ranks and medals JUST by killing people...

My idea was to have youe general rank from all the points you gain as it was in BF2 with a similar rank system and gain of weapons.

But this time add points for doing teamwork type things SEPERATELY from all your other points.

So basically any assists (which is from BF2 what teamwork points were awarded for) would gain you a completely seperate points (but would still add up in your total score to gain you though your general rank) which would gain you more items like extra medical kits as a medic and stuff..

Your way using medics to gain points would have to be done like Every 20 times you revive someone you get a point.. OR IT WILL BE SPAMMED THE HELL OUT OF AND PEOPLE WITHIN A WEEK WOULD HAVE INSANE AMOUNTS TOWARDS THAT RANK.

On a final note: REAL MEN HOLD SHIFT

Erm, it wouldn't make it harder, as the rank levels and point system would be changed accordingly to keep level gaining roughly similar levels.

And in regards to every 20 times, I was suggesting make it 1 point but make other things worth multiple points and raise the boundary.

1 point for healing means less points to gain rank. plus. Healing is done so MUCH IT WILL BE SPAMMED THE HELL OUT OF AGAIN.

Do you understand me yet? -_-

It is quite simple. You could not change it accordingly. Your better off keeping points gain as it is and not gaining assist points for healing. It may have a slight job towards teamwork but as I keep saying IT WOULD BE SPAMMED THE HELL OUT OF.

There are enough people I see as it is doing this:

Full squad ALL MEDICS. they all lie to the floor and spam the use of the bringing them alive again...

It is basically impossible to kill them without about 10 of you shooting the crap out of them.

People like that are all over BF gaining insane amounts of points basically for cheating.. That will continue in the game anyway but with how were explaining to gain new items it will be done more because it will be insanely easy to get points for both ranking systems...

You don't seem to understand, you get 1 point for doing that, but say 20 for doing something else, rather than 1 point for that something else and 1 point per 20 heals, still gives the same reward, would just need to raise the boundaries 20fold.

That would give them more reason to spam it though.. Because its 10 times harder to get anywhere with it.

Less reason, as doing other actions would be easier to gain points as.

Anyway, I think point spammers should all be banned anyway, it's pointless and boring.

Well your way then would discourage people being a medic aswell -_-
Because it is harder.
Less medics means insane loss and you getting pwnt :/
It may only be a game but it is nice to have a balanced team.
Of course you would still gain points for captures ect but healing would seem less important and being something with a gun that owns more would seem like a cooler thing to do. Their are already enough noobs on BF2 that don't understand how important medics are and just change what they are almost every single time they die :/

YOU NEED to encourage people to be what they like and what does the TEAM good. Teamwork is what were on about here.

On 2142 they lowered it to only having 4 different types which was cool because they were all having advantages is alot more ways.

You probably don't realise how noobish people can be on BF2 because I would imagine you have played it considerably less then me and Aaron have..

My wishlist for Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 also applies to Battlefield 3. I was talking about the 1.4 Beta Patch in the quote below:

azcn2503 wrote:
[i]Don't get it. I've tried it, and all I can say is that it is worse than the 1.3 patch, which in turn made the game less playable than the previous patches.
Why do Battlefield 2 patches progressively make the game less playable?

It doesn't look like we have much to look forward to with Battlefield 2142, so I am cancelling my pre-order until I am satisifed with the Battlefield 2142 demo, which should be released any time now.

Battlefield 2/2142 wishlist:

* A server browser (honestly, BF2 doesn't have one, but it does have what people refer to as 'shite')
* Cursor and menus that run at the same framerate as the game
* Responsive controls
* The game is rated 16+, so allow swearing and for christ sake add blood to the game, dust looks stupid
* When I knife somebody and dust comes from their face, I expect them to die, please let this happen
* Ability to add friends
* Favourite server list that works
* Server browser
* To stop adding things to the game before they have fixed all the problems
* WIDESCREEN SUPPORT
* Modern graphics techniques like HDR and PPMB
* Server browser
* Anti-rape: stop people from raping at a base in an APC for the whole map
* Add reliability
* Fix the game

The best addition would be native widescreen support.

Another highly anticipated feature is auto-self-kick/ban, where grumpy admins automatically get kicked and banned from their own server for kicking and banning other players for no reason.

auto-self-kick/ban-bot wrote:

Perfect.

True, I stopped playing because of them...

Anyway, the problem with pointspamming is it is going to happen anyway, no matter what you do. You can remove points for doing the action, but then that annoys the true players.

Perhaps a better solution, thinking about it, would be being able to detect teh pointspammers and mess them about, somehow.

And yes, Aaron, needs more gore! I think TF2 has the same rating and the gore on that is, well, very gorey.

Perhaps by making the game ultra-realistic, people wouldn't TK etc. because it would make them literally feel sick.

Alternatively, make TK'ers more susceptible to things like artillery fire, if fired in that area, or a natural disaster like a landslide for instance, or unable to start a vehicle in time to pull away in emergencies. Squad vehicle locking would be a good idea, for example, a squad leader can say that a vehicle belongs to that squad, and anyone outside of that squad could not enter it. That might slow down the gameplay a bit though.

Perhaps a TK punishment system would be good, like is seen on CSS a lot, where you get to dish a punishment of choice to your TKer. Or perhaps making the TKer not being able to fire for so long or get a shakey sight as they just killed a teammate and are horrified at their actions.

I've just been reading through all of this topic again and I think we have some really good ideas about Battlefield 3.

I've just thought of another thing that maybe could promote team-play and get more people in vehicles... additional time required to start the vehicle. For example, maybe it only takes 2 seconds to start a truck, but about 15 seconds to fully start up a helicopter.

I think that the frontline is an interesting way of focusing the battles and will obviously help to encourage some good team play unless of course you want your team to fail... This sort of play is used in Frontlines: FOW. It's good because it keeps some focus on key areas, rather than just all of the points available to capture on the map - lots of lone players going to take points on their own etc.

As a side note... I think the helicopters could probably do with having a bit more of a heavy feel to them. They're just too aerobatic in Battlefield 2.

Is there any information released about this yet?

And I just read over your wishlist you wrote ages ago. The last one made me lol xD "Fix the game"

That was generally what they have to do..

As for the friendlist thing it was in 2142 BUT 2142 is THE most unstable game in the history of games..

first time i played it must have crashed about 999999999999999999999999 the first day.. I havent played it since then. And last i checked.. There is yet to be a new patch :/

I wanna check out what battlefeild Bad Company is gonna be like on PS3 hopefully it will give a good idea about the next PC one =]

I've seen BF BC trailers and stuff, and it looks pretty good. Highly destructable terrain is one thing that really stood out.

Yeah its supposed to be 90% destructable so it should be blow up down to simple frames and shit but im not sure if thats a lie or not. But i beleive you can shoot trees down and stuff.

I have a feeling however BF3 is just going to be very similar to crysis..

Obviously less futuristic and just more modern warfare thought but hopefully with the ability to blow up alot of stuff.

Wikipedia has a picture of what appears to be a grenade launcher blowing a chunk out of a building - Clicky - so that looks pretty destructible to me.

I never listen to the fully destructible things any more. I list fully destructible as going below ground level. pummel a building so much rubble is a mile either direction as dust and a crater so big it could have been a nuke. I've played games with fully destructible environments and had tree's strong enough to repel tank blasts etc.

Games limit "fully destructible" because there are key elements (landscape) that affect gameplay. However, BC looks like it is advancing destructible further than I have seen.

By structable I think it goes by what would physically be able to be damaged by the specific weapons

Obviously a massive armour block isnt gonna be damaged much by anything..

So I think normal building will be basically it I doubt the floor will be damages very much..

And as for advancing further in destructability i dont think its any improvement from cellfactor :/

I don't remember CellFactor having destructible environments, though could be just the map I played (I was on Aaron's PhysX machine at the time, so that wasn't it), it had lots of objects, though. Still, it wasn't really mainstream.

I agree with the rest of your post ^^

Well basically evey object and everything accept massive stone walls and the floor could be blown up..

There were other maps made for it but if their all futuristic style like the one I think your talking about then they probably wouldn't be due to the simple fact buildings were non-existant..
