Random description from the Facebook Nation's app:

Description of Si's Nation - Cretown wrote:
Robocracy of Cretown

The Robocracy of Cretown is dictated by His Royal Highness Simon Cook. The election of a new leader is based primarily upon the reception of the current leader to accept a new term from his/her self. The people of Cretown are so technologically advanced that each citizen does not physically go to work, but simply thinks of his/her office space and it materializes in whatever physical space they currently occupy. All citizens are afforded the right to free health care and the medical community frequently sponsors seminars on healthy living and dieting.

Crime is virtually unheard of in Cretown as policing forces are given the right to take any means necessary to publicly reprimand criminals. Cretown has great pride in its powerful military force which does not hesitate to reprimand any violation of the law publicly and with unusually excessive force. Some major religions are allowed to purchase land, but no public display is tolerated. In Cretown, learning is held to the highest of virtues and any citizen may take free classes to further their education.

Conservation issues drive this nation's production of vehicles that run completely on human waste. This country's economic system is completely run by corporations working in the free market and, subsequently, only the CEO's of large corporations are eligible to hold public office, and this government allows its citizenship many social liberties and actively works to protect those freedoms with a government maintained court system.

Population: 11771
Military Size: 5580
Wealth: $861,332,927
Unemployment: 1.4%

And recent news:

Cretown News wrote:

President Dr. Dudemeister, dictator of "Dudemeisterville", a neighbouring city, had this to say:

Well that is random!

Cars that run on human waste? WTF? While it would be good, it's kinda silly, seeing as human waste has already had energy stripped from it ^^

The way to go is hydrogen cars. We just need a way of storing hydrogen efficiently and safely. That, and to master (cold) fusion to create the energy needed to make the hydrogen in the first place.

Cold fusion is the future! ^^

Audi R8 is pretty good.
but for just a lil...for quite a lot more actually, i'd want a DB9 :D
even if it does break down all the time.

i also want a Fission powered car :D
shielding might be a tiny small problem though :/

Powering a car by fission would be pretty damn hard, and not just because of shielding. It would mostly be due to fission providing lots of heat, but no expansion. In a fission power plant, it heats up water, creating steam, which drives the turbines to make electricity. In a car the petrol explodes to push pistons to make the car go. It would be hard/impossible to adapt fission for this use. However, you could theoretically have a miniature fission generator to electrolyse water, and use the resulting hydrogen to power a modified internal combustion engine.

At least, I think that's all right.

P.S. Fission sucks, fusion ftw.

DB9 is the nicest car around lol

fusion could result in a car that take ages to turn on, potentially making it more practical to never turn off.
The Temperature, pressure and magnetic field needs to be so precise and controlled that the slightest fault would render your..whatever useless, while this would make it much safer it would likely make it prone to breaking down, and repairs would be expensive.

Fusion power plants would be awesome :D much better idea than setting fire to dead things like we do now.

fission power is already used on some aircraft carriers and subs, but i guess its possible because of there size. the exact details are classified.
Fission would increases chances of disaster
Beta-decay could cause problems.
there is no way that it could use pistons as far as i can see and even with converted energy, finding something that will shield it from the worst of accidents as well as being light and cheap enough for a car wont be easy either.

wouldn't Hydrogen power drastically shorten the time between refuels defeating the purpose of the would-be nuke powering it?

i don't think nuclear power is very practical on the small scale atm.
but i still want one :D

Fusion is an incredibly powerful form of reaction that is safe and clean. Basically it involves ramming small atoms together to make bigger ones. This creates energy because there is a mass defect (the overall mass decreases slightly), which is linked to energy by Einstein's famous equation E=MC^2. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to control, meaning that we have only used it to blow stuff up so far. When we do learn how to control it, it should be pretty safe. The problems comes as it is not sustainable (which is fine in bombs - one bang and you're done). Well, that is unless you're a star.
This is usually done with Deuterium/Tritium (isotopes of hydrogen) making helium.

Fission is breaking apart unstable atoms, again causing a mass defect. This has the bad side effect of radioactive waste. This generally uses Uranium. Beta-Decay is only a side effect of the products trying to become stable. It's good because it requires little fuel.

Hydrogen cars aren't used yet as we don't have a way of storing hydrogen in a space efficient and safe way. Basically, being a gas, you don't get much in a tank. If this can be sorted, then it would be incredibly useful (clean combustion - product is water).

My idea would store the hydrogen in the form of water, which is electrolysed into it's gasses (hydrogen and oxygen), fed into the engine and combusted, with the resultant reaction causing the expansion necessary for the engine to work, and the product being water again. Theoretically, you could harvest the water back, and it wouldn't need refuelling ever. The problem is electrolysing the water quick enough to feed the engine. A fusion reaction should be able to do this, and due to the huge amount created, shouldn't need that much fuel (hydrogen isotopes) to power, and could be stored in batteries. There are an awful lot of problems with this, though. ^^

we still talking about use in a car or general theory?

they are testing Fusion power atm and hope that it will replace Coal someday.
it is difficult to control ie. temp, pressure, magnetic field etc.
which was why i said it was no good for a car right now ^^ someone hits you, go over a bump, fault in electronics etc. could slightly upset the equation. stopping the reaction.

a fission car is too dangerous i think. it will kill the driver (and everyone near) with radiation if not shielded, and will not move if it is. put a small crack in it and risk a miniature kind of meltdown.
recently used generators could also meltdown due to beta-decay right? not sure on that one tho

hydrogen-
you always need to refuel something, even when collecting water. but it may only be once every 10 or so years with a fusion generator.
hydrogen and battery's wouldn't make for an impressive top speed how engines currently work :(
could try its liquid form?

Bit of both, lol.

Fusion is still being tested, but they have only managed to make it work for short periods of time.

A meltdown has nothing to do with the radiation. It is simply the reaction running away. Fission reactors use control rods to limit the reactions taking place, to stop it running away with itself and becoming uncontrollable.

Hydrogen would be just as effective as petrol if we could find a way of storing it. Hydrogen explodes, and that is the property needed to power an ICE. The stuff about fusion reactors was saying electrolyse water to make the hydrogen (but this would probably be impossible to sustain). Liquid hydrogen would be a nightmare, as it would need to be stored at less than 14K or extremely high pressure. There are other ways of storing it that are being developed, but there isn't much info on this around. Whoever does figure it out will be very very rich, though.

radiation wont cause a meltdown, but it isn't exactly good for your health lol
we are agreeing that none of these methods will currently work on a car right?
which i thought was the point of this :P

only said liquid hydrogen because you could get more of it in the same space :P
thats actually debatable because of the equipment you'd need to keep it near absolute zero :S anyhoo..

its more likely to work without the nuclear stuff, to much hassle and too expensive.
+ the idea that nuclear material is available in general stores scares me
its a clean version of what we already have, but i want...more

True, mass available deuterium wouldn't be too good. The original A-Bombs were basically a lot of that with a bit of good old TNT for detonation, lol.

It wouldn't be 911 at all - no planes involved.

I'm not sure how easy an ABomb is, but I don't think it's quite as easy as putting TNT in some deuterium, lol, it took them long enough to work it out ^^
