ATI are going to be releasing the Radeon X1800XT OC; a kind of half-way mark between the X1800XT and the 7800GTX 512MB clocks. The core will be clocked at a whopping 700MHz, and the Memory at 1600MHz. Keeping in mind this is still a 16 pipeline card.

It has good potential to be pushed further than this, due to a revised BIOS (nobody sure how good this is yet.. ?), and the new memory controller. It could be better than the 7800GTX 512 if it wanted to be, probably, but probably not.

It won't last long, either, since ATI are very close to releasing R580. But then Nvidia will undoubtedly release something better, then ATI, then Nvidia, etc.

Though, saying that, you'd get the impression you should buy a card and stick with it, because it'll be out of date in a few months anyway. But it's more like a few weeks at the moment, so don't go buying.

Nuff said.

Most info here taken from Inquirer.

That will be the highest core clock ever on a graphics card (out of the box). Though it is drawing with a recently announced card from S3 of all people!

It's pretty damn obvious that a couple of days after one card is released, the opposition will announce another. The next one will be the 8 series, then the X2 series. Probably.

I heard about that card from S3... I thought they died out ages ago to be honest! I'll have to look in to that one more, and see some benchmarks.

The only benchmark of it I had was 6,717 on 3DMark05 with an A64 4000+ and 512MB RAM accompanying it.

EDIT: Looking at it's specs, that's flippin awesome! Only 128MB or GDDR3, 8 pixel shaders (4 ROPs), 4 vertex shaders, less than 100USD and a cooler reminicient of the GeForce 3 (tiny HSF). Oh, and it has "Multichrome" which is like SLI and CrossFire, but it works in any motherboard and doesn't needany extra connectors. Hmm, seems a bit too good, TBH....

Oh, and it's called the S27 and it's from the Chrome S-series.

I've just looked in to it. It's great for people who like to conserve power, but I'm the type who'd strap together 3 650W PSU's just to get the power to my beloved graphics card. It's roughly on par with a 6600GT, therefore is pants.

Or the Radeon X1800XT OC ;)

I doubt it will sell very well; everybody knows R580 is up and coming.

Nah, the GTX 512 is better...

And the 8 series.... Everyone knows that new hardware is always coming, if we always took that mentality, we wouldn't buy anything.

Now is an especially bad time to buy, because of the late release of the X1800, and because it's too far in between products to buy, as soon as the next product is released, it'll probably be going in my system, once it's settled down a bit.

Well, I think it will be after Christmas that everything is changed, as they will use Christmas to make more money, as that is when the most is bought.
