Take a look for Blizzard Radeon on Google, and you'll find the Sapphire Radeon X850XTPE Blizzard, cooled with Liquid Metal, conducts 65x as much heat as water... I hope Sapphire plop this in the X1000 series and all above.

On a similar kind of heat-conductivity note, anybody else noticed how silly the Nvidia 7800 heatsink is? The pipes go down but heat rises. Never mind.

Yeah, I saw this a while ago. It did have 2 fans on it when I first saw it, but they said something about it either being passize or single slow fan cooled when released.

Some people have upside down cases... Anyway, I'm sure it works (though I think it's the first time nVidia has had GDDR on the back). Remember, all graphics card coolers are upside down. This is because they started being horizontal in the desktop cases, then the towers made them upide down, and they never thought to switch them round.

The pump on the liquid metal cooler is an electromagnetic pump that takes advantage of the properties of the metal that's going around it. Therefore it's silent :) The cooler, though, however, though, however, though will probably use a low power fan like you say. Pump is worth a mention because like, why did nobody else think of it first! Good on NanoCooling.

Anyway, some data I gathered from issue 23 of [url=http://www.custompc.co.uk]CustomPC[/url] (it may also be on their website). Firstly, it's based on Gallium, which melts at about 30C, and a 'secret' ingredient. It's approximately 65 times more effective at cooling than water. The finished coolers will have a maximum of 1 fan, in an Arctic Cooling like arrangement, or will possibly be passive cooler, though that would have to have a large 'heat exchanging' (fancy word for heatsink).

Anyway, this issue is 5 months old, and it says it is about 5 months away, so it is due anytime now. There is also plans for a CPU cpooler, apparantly.

Oh, and no-one thought of it first because up until recently is that they never needed it! Only in the last 2 to 3 years have gaming GPUs needed a sizable fan, and in the last 5 years have they needed a fan at all. And now they are becoming too hot for fans alone...

Yes, I thought that too. Most of the components inside our PC's need to be thought out again for the modern day and age :)

They could do to completely redesign the cooling in PCs now, not just flip everything round.

I think they should redesign the actual components, and reduce the need for such loud/powerful coolers... Like a Nurofen - getting straight to the cause of the problem.

I'm afraid that woul be narly impossible, to get the speed we have now with current technology requires power and cooling, and a complete redesign would cost millions. I think a re-think of cooling systems would be better.

Damn your cost-efficient thinking.

LOL, it's better for us aswell. New cooling would mean a new case. New components would mean an entirely new PC (and years of bugs)! Or is that what you want?

People need to think harder and stop making silly mistakes, in that case.

When it was first dne, it was logical. But that was when all we had was a desktop (horizontal) case and a vouple of fans. Now we have vertical (tower) cases, with cmponents that spew out more heat than a radiator, we need everything to be re-thinked to something that works.
