Well that's the price DVD writers were at before the release of Blu-Ray, I seem to remember, so it would seem logical.

I'm not so sure about that, in my second system the DVD/RW drive was £25. That was early 2005.

All I know was that my DVDRW drive was £50 when I built this, 4? years ago. I seem to remember all the HD stuff started coming soon after, but not that soon.

I would just like to say that this system is still running flawlessly and it's undoubtedly the most polished build I've ever done... girlfriend is very satisfied with it. I'm thinking about purchasing a second HD3870 ICEQ-3 now that the 4870's are out because it'll be a cheap way to boost the performance... if Sims 3 really needs that much graphics power? LOL!

We're enthusiasts, we enjoy building our computers and choosing the hardware. We get to tailor the computer exactly to our needs and know the quality of the components inside (especially the PSU, mobo, RAM and cooling that 3rd party manufacturers skimp on). Plus, it can tend to be cheaper. The system in this thread would cost around £700 in parts, but probably £1000 prebuilt.

Also, that site doesn't appear to do computers anyway :/

They're an American company :/ Computer stuff is (annoyingly) a lot cheaper in America.

Anyway, we like building systems, and it's a wasted effort trying to persuade us otherwise. xP

I personally get a lot of gratification out of selecting all my components and assembling them, makes it a bit more than just a computer, kinda makes it personal.
