Just found a link to the press preview part of the pyro website;

Sweet. I want those unlocks!

Summarised;

The maps are cp_fastlane and ctf_turbine. Also, it says "For the first Community Map Pack...", so it sounds like future updates will contain more.

The pyro flamethrower has been modified to have a new ability (alt fire) that fires a blast of air that pushes everything back. This includes people and projectiles (rockets/nades). It will not grant a rocket jump like ability ( :( ).

The unlocks are (in order);

Flare gun - 15 achievements - flaming projectile launcher, replaces shotgun.

Backburner - 20 achievements - awesome looking flamethrower, always crits from behind (aka backstab), but loses the new flamethrower ability. Also grants user +50HP.

Axetinguiser - 25 achievements - axe covered in barbed wire, always crits enimies that are on fire, low damage to non lit enemies.

Achievements (35 this time) are also on that webpage. They look like pretty good achievements, with only a few silly ones (Ignite 10 CLOAKED spies, 6 axe kills, dominate someone who then leaves, kill taunters, taunt over dead body with all taunts). Interestingly, one achievement requires the first unlock, and another gives away another small pyro change - kill an enemy with a taunt, showing a picture of the haduken - it now does damage!

Some big grind ones, too. Hopefully retroactive - 500/1000kills and 1mil fire damage.

I think I'm going to do most of these properly, but the silly ones and the rare event (reflect critical rocket to kill) ones I might whore. Might whore the ones I should already have too, if they're not retroactive and they're not quick to get in normal play, like the uber one (you have to wait for an uber, I don't get ubered a lot, even when I'm top of server and doing mos the work).

The achievements are fine and very creative. Just need to be able to play decently on the Pyro and you'll be fine- I'll do the Pyro after I've completed the Medic ^^ Skillers will no doubt get them all within a couple of weeks after the exams...

My exams finish and this is released at the same time, so WIN.

I will probably try and get them pretty quickly. As I've already said, I can see myself whoring a few, especially taunt based ones. Maybe the ragequit, crit rocket and cloaked spy ones. I'm not too good at melee or staying alive either, so 6 axe kills could be a challenge, though I could do that on a pub with a friendly medic, I think.

EDIT: I just found out the unlocks are at 15, 20 and 25 achievements - no whoring then!

Also, no flamethrower jumping! :(

I can see myself getting the flare gun in a couple of hours, then a couple of hours mroe for each of the other weapons.

I won't cheat these ones. Well unless I get to like 23 and there are only silly ones or obscure ones left, then I'll do it for the weapons.

I can see myself equipping the flare gun, standard 'thrower and the super axe!

Well, you cant equip it till youve got the Shotgun down enemies achievment xD

The flare gun looks good, but also kinda hard, they did say was really innacurate... Im wondering if it really DOES have the range to be able to annoy Snipers :/

20 shotgun kills against burning enemies isn't hard. Anyway, 100 ignites with the flare gun is another achievement.

I'm thinking it's going to be pretty much the demo's nade launcher, just with ignition and low impact damage. Against snipers it will be really good, lob a nade into their little nest, set them on fire, and then they can't make a good shot for the next 20 seconds (damage = aim movement). I just hope it has the range.

Got 12 achievements (well 11 + milestone) now, so I have the flare gun now. It's pretty good, quite a straight path (not completely) and does 15 damage on impact, plus does the standard afterburn.

The new blowback ability is pretty cool, fairly easy to use, though timing requires practise. You also forget it's there, sometimes. Uses 25 ammo, and stops the fire for a second. The cooldown is virtually none.

The hadoken taunt is insta kill, though requires a lot of start up without being able to move. You can use it in humilation, even as the losing side (sneeky kill if you get lucky). I got the achievement as my first, I came out of spawn with another pyro standing still shotgunning a teleporter and just let him have it. xP

Some of my achievements are bugged, as I seem unable to get the "ignite spies" achievements (doesn't even register a 1/10), even though I do it a lot. I've only got 2 for the shotgun achievement, aswell, because atm it's quite hard to be considered the finisher or the igniter due to the amount of pyros.

There's lots of pyros, but not as many as there were medics (4 out of a 11 man team on my last game). I predict it will die down in the next couple of days, too.

Heh, the pyros died down, it started at about 6 per team, and went to 4 (though I did change server, and the second server had more players, so it seemed like even less pyros).

Thanks for leaving when I asked, Aaron, that ragequit achievement would be bloody hard otherwise (depends on luck).

I wonder if that achievement still works if you kill at the end of a game and the server changes level, or if the user disconnects because of a timeout, or a Steam logon error.

The ragequit one... is funny if your an admin of a server. You just kick someone who youve dominated and you get it... or if they get ping kicked.
