I have a question that I would like answered...

My system in my bedroom is set up to be two monitors that act as one monitor, essentially giving me an aspect ratio of 8:3 or 2.666666:1.

My decent system uses just one monitor so has an aspect ratio of 4:3 so 1.333:1.

Say my system with the larger a/r wasn't a load of rubbish and could pull a framerate of more than 5 on min settings... would playing say CSS or TF2... would I be cheating using the top system over other players using the bottom system... if so is widescreen, with an a/r of 1.6:1? Is there a limit? Does anyone know or should I string a system where I have such a large a/r i can see all around me?

Depends on how the game works - if it chops off the top and bottom (aka Bioshock), you would be at a disadvantage.

Source games seem to do the limit by FOV, so you would still only get a 90deg or whatever FOV.

Also, after a certain point, you won't be able to see anything in the outer screens anyway, you'll be too focussed on what's in front of you.

I believe most games limit resolutions to standard widescreen, so it wouldn't work anyway. Heck, BF2 didn't even feature widescreen support because of "fairness".

lol most games would only load norm ar resoutions or wide screen (wide screen on most games dosnt make a diff as only give u a lil more n generaly takes away abit ur up dwn view in the proce the fact its split across 2 at all is a disadatgade neway as the gap would b right at the key veiwing point making it incredable dificulte 2 use (but generaly games over ride setups like tht n only run on 1 screen though neway unless this is runing as a hardware tie not a software 1)

It depends on the game and developers.

You can check to see whether the game adds to the horizontal (Hor+) or takes from the vertical (Vert-) on the WSGF: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/

Half Life 2 is good because it add's to the additional available horizontal area used by widescreen monitors, whereas games like BF2 don't support widescreen at all, and some games actually remove part of the viewable vertical area to fill out the widescreen resolution and these games are typically unfavoured especially in multiplayer.

Your question, is my A/R cheating? Well, if you modify the files in BF2 to allow 16:9 or TH2G resolutions - you'll get kicked by PunkBuster so yes!
