Hello.

As many of you know, I bought a PS3 and a HDTV for my family.

I bought a few Blu-ray discs so that we can 'experience' this whole high-definition malarky.

So far, I have purchased...

Casino Royale on Ebay for 48p
Monty Python: The Life of Brian on Ebay for under £10
300 from Gamestation in Gloucester for £15

So far, I've only watched snippets of 300 and enjoyed it, but I should be sitting down with the family tonight to watch Casino Royale...

You need to compare the Blu-ray and DVD versions :P

Good idea!

I've watched the Casino Royale DVD, but on a different TV.

Some nice films there! Not really sure how they can make a HD Monty Python though, considering the original footage probably isn't that sharp to begin with.

Tell us how good it looks (compared to a regular DVD).

That was a question I kept on asking... The thing is, these old films were all shot on 35mm tape, and is actually captured at a resolution higher than 1080p, so they're actually downsizing..

;)

I'll let you know how it goes.

Yeah, but due to the age of the film, and quality of the camera equipment, the actual quality of the film (not resolution) isn't the best, meaning that the high resolution won't add sharpness to the image. I've got the Holy Grail (great film) on DVD, and the quality was noticeably lower than that of a modern film. Not that it really matters, just makes me question whether HD is worth it in these cases.

It depends, old films like Bladerunner (old old) and Independence Day (old-ish) look amazing in Blu-ray according to the reviews. It's more to do with the actual transfer than the equipment used, I believe.

Maybe, but the quality of the original film could be a problem in some cases. I guess it's just a matter of watching them really.

Sweet, so did HD really improve the experience?
