There's something that really irritates me in the world of computers. Sometimes even my favourite Linux distributions can't save me from it. It's a change of focus. Whether that means a window popping up in front of the one you were working in, or a text field in a page becoming automatically selected so that it is ready for input.

There are some websites that do this all the time, and you might find it useful. Websites like Google, and your banking website (probably) will adjust the focus of your text to an input box ready for you to start typing. In Google search that is fine, but in Gmail... when you start typing your email address, tab down to the password, then the page finishes loading and puts your text back to the email address input field revealing your password, or the rest of your password.

These things should be done on request and never automatically. It's a huge mistake that many websites make. If they want to do it automatically, then the code to focus to that particular text box should come immediately after its appearance on the page and not when the page finishes loading and you are half way through filling that form out... Do you get me?

I bet you've had MSN Messenger windows steal focus before? It's horrible when you type something in to the wrong conversation.

At the end of the day - people like to be able to control their computers, and not the other way around.

Yeah, I hate it when stuff steals focus. especially MSN. So many times I've nearly sent my password to a person who just started talking to me. So much for "security features".
