You can build a top end system with a £100 graphics card for £700 these days, spending £100o would be easy to fit one of these in.

And being the same GPU, you'll probably be better of with a regular old 8800, unless they really do change a lot.

That's a big budget.



The problem there is that the 8-series will be harder to get hold of. Especially the Ultra.

I didn't mean the Ultra, I meant the GT, as it's price is great for it's performance, and no doubt the 9900s will cost twice as much for a similar performance.

Its Big budget yea. It'l take me less than half a year to get money for it though. But the comp im gona build will last me till end of Uni *touch wood*

Yes, let's hope it does with that kind of budget. I spent over £2k on my last system and that caused me no end of trouble and financial pain. Things just kept going wrong, and with a return-to-base type warranty, things take ages to get replaced. I hope for your sake that you get some reliable parts.

I spent a fair bit on this computer 4 years ago, though good things were more expensive then. However, the only upgrade it's needed is a graphics card, and that was because it broke and not because of performance.

I would say spend less than £1K on a system, using the cheapest good parts (like an Intel Q6600) as the minimal extra you get for a lot more money is not worth it as it will become outdated at the same time. Graphics are probably the only thing you'll really need to upgrade, and I stick to the budget high end cards (like the 8800GT/GTS opposed to the GTX and Ultra). Also, make sure you get a decent PSU, though a 1000W PSU really isn't needed (500W will happily run a single CPU-GPU system with a few drives), expect to spend £50+, modular is always nice. Cases also need to be good, and you won't regret buying a £70+ Lian Li or Coolermaster.

Spend extra money on a nice (large) TFT monitor (24" isn't too expensive these days) and some decent speakers, perhaps a good mouse and keyboard.
