Yes, but the unpatched BF2 was incredibly buggy, so people who bough it soon got fed up with the and didn't play the fixed versions. It's better to release a working game rather than a broken one, as you will still have to wait to play the broken one properly.

BF2 is stable now but that took a couple of years of patches. The original game was pretty stable too I think in that case the first patch just <LOOK MA, I AM SWEARING> over the game until the latest one.. So they must have lost thousands of players during that period.

Yeah, the thing is it took over a year of patches to fix, but they could have probably released it properly if they just delayed it a couple of months. That's why I don't particularly mind delays, especially in regards to Valve games, because they usually result in a much higher quality and polished game.

Unpatched Battlefield 2 had a pretty nasty memory leak that affected pretty much everybody. It would lag so much to the point that the whole computer would become unusable.

Which probably annoyed a large amount of potential players so much that they won't buy BF again... Which is why you need to release games that work and get a good fanbase of people who think your game is great and tell everyone else that.
Anyway, what do people want to see in BF3?

I think thats all been explained in all the fair play stuff.. If they can stop spawn raping and improve the gameplay then its all good.

Oh yeah, spawn killing, that was so annoying... I can remember most servers used the rule "spec ops at enemy base only" cos otherwise one team would just camp the base and kill everyone spawning.

Yeah specs were the only ones allowed or maybe the odd tank just to detroy their UAV and arty and shit. On maps like karkand though the MEC would rush the USMC and nothing could be done about it cause as soon as they made it up the hill they just spawn raped everyone..

I think a few games have interesting solutions to stuff like that.
TF2 has unenterable spawn zones (for the opposing team, anyway).
Crysis has some automated defences for the main base, from what I've seen.
I'm sure other games have other solutions, too.

That was the problem really you generally spawned out in the open. On tf2 you always spawn inside so its alot better.

Aesthetic changes... The addition of realistic blood effects and dismemberment would make it brilliant. Also, the use of modern graphical effects, like HDR and motion blur. Oh, and realistic physics (I don't care how, Crysis has proved that multi-core x86 physics works very well)
Gameplay changes... More rewards for team based play, and maybe this would allow for an increase in players per map. Maps could do with being vastly larger, either that or they could do with being more complex - when your teammates drive away and you're left to run to the next checkpoint, it takes about 10 minutes to run through, usually, very boring terrain! More weapons.

Something I've just thought, they need a way to encourage people to have more people in the vehicle at once, so people don't just drive off and leave teammates behind. How that would work, I don't know.

How about a time based reward for entering a vehicle or driving a vehicle with say, 3 or more people. For example: you've jumped in to a truck, and beep your horn for people to get in, when a couple of people get in to join you, you drive off and receive a point for teamwork.

I think it would be better for everyone in the vehicle to get kill assists for anyone he shoots somone down or runs them over. Everyone in the vehicle should get a point and the killer the general kill points.
Maybe even have rewards for assist. So have like two ranks. The mian would be your rank going through sergeant ect. The other a teamwork rank which adds up all your assist points. Should reward stuff like more medical packs, ammo packs and grenades?
Basic rank should stick to giving new weapons and maybe mods for the weapons. New scopes maybe, and secondary fires?
I think that would be the best way to encourage teamwork because you get alot more out of it.

Sounds like a good idea. Other groovy rewards could be increased sprint time or speed, more medical or ammo packs at a time, faster repair time etc.
An interesting addition common in RPG games but that I feel would be welcome in BF would be persistent stats on things like field weapon upgrades (some guy offering upgrades that take a bit of time, but reward him for doing it, though he cannot actually use the weapon), stamina resupply (food, drink etc.) ... then surely the game would appeal to everybody!

Making it alot more RPG based would actually do it alot of good. Of course the higher ranked people would just own alot but that is what the teamwork stuff is for.
Encouraging alot more teamwork if definately the best way to go. But also each team should have a main base and should spawn inside. It shouldn't be a destructable one either really. It should ust be out of the way to avoid spawn rapes.

Crysis is pretty good at preventing spawn-killing to a certain extent by placing automated base defences that shoot down anything that get close to them. They can be destroyed, but they do take a heck of a beating. Something like this in BF would be a grand addition!! Of course, without ripping too much style out of Crysis.

If it's on the same level of play as Crysis it would be an awesome game. Crysis still needs a bit of work but it seemed insanely good and it was only a BETA. Didn't see much spawn raping at all and the maps were big enough for people to get around ok. Tanks were generally as annoying as they were on BF2 though but you can do alot more about escaping or if you have the money destroying them.

I think you may have hit upon something with separating the kill and teamwork ranks. It would allow them to give rewards that are only available as you gain teamplay points (or whatever they would be called) meaning that they could easily encourage a lot of teamwork.

Thats exactly my point. If they don't do the teamwork they will never gain abilities like others would.
It might be hard to setup though because assists are only ever 1 point. So it would have to be rewards starting at maybe 5 and doubling every time..
It would get pretty extreme after a while but that would be for the real veteran players just like before.

Well you would also get teamwork points for doing stuff like driving with full vehicles, healing people, capturing points (maybe) etc. The normal rank would just be kills.

Normal rank is all of your points..
And healing isn't really assists but I suppose that comes into somehow. It would make it insanely easy to get points. Medics can spam points all day.
