Yeah, I pretty much had my eyes on it since release.

The machine is built now...

More pics to come tomorrow night.

Edit: Just thought that it is quite important to mention... Even though my Tagan 1100W is actually a very small unit, it didn't fit in to the case of the V1000 without removing the hard drive trays and a compartment divider. I didn't know this until I'd installed pretty much everything and started cabling up. It really did look like it was going to fit... but no. If I would change anything about this computer - I'd make the case bigger, or I'd get a modular power supply. I'd like a Tagan or an Enermax to be honest, and the wattages are lower on modulars, for whatever reason.. I don't know. The V1000 is actually surprisingly space-constrained.

Hmm, how close to fitting was it?

As for space constrained, I think that's probably due to the compartmenting, less flexability. Also, I'm not sure of it's external dimensions.

Here's a couple of really poor pictures. The first one demonstrates simply how stuffed my case is...

And this is my setup:

And here are some more pictures...

2.4GHz up to 2.8GHz (no volt mod): http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a324/ ... esktop.jpg
2.4GHz up to 3GHz (with volt mod and new BIOS): http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a324/ ... rclock.jpg
Vista rates me 5.9 out of 5.9: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a324/ ... System.jpg
My system at 3GHz running a stability test (it passed): http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a324/ ... at3GHz.jpg

I'm sure this thing will get to 3.4GHz with a better cooler.

Yeah, unfortunately there is nothing more I can do about that!

Anyway, I overclocked even more today. I Raised the FSB from 1333 to 1400 with no problems (bear in mind that the original FSB was 1066 with a 9x multiplier). This made a final clock speed of 3.15GHz. That's about 31.3% faster. The temperatures remain at around 65C using the stock cooler. I could probably push it to 3.4GHz on the stock cooler, to be honest, but I don't think that's a wise decision. It would more than likely go over 70C and I really don't want that!

Well the glass should also be pretty strong...

Anyway, I reckon you should buy a new cooler ASAP and overclock the nuts off it!

3DMark06 result... http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=3297239

I got 13724. Not amazing, but a lot better than the 3000-something on my old computer. I'm hoping for that score to rise considerably when I add the second 8800 Ultra.

Nice, I think (not sure) I get around 5000-7000, but then again I leave loads of rubbish running when I did it.

Just checking, you are using dual channel mode on the memory, aren't you? (It's just teh 3DMark page says slots 1 and 2, and I'm not sure if that should be 1 and 3).

Is that 3DMark05 or 3DMark06?

I dunno, should be 06, hmm. I'll have to run it clean at some point.

Hmm, the slot cooler is interesting. I'd think it would be more effective the other way round, but then you wouldn't have any extraction then. Hmm.

It seems to work pretty well. The 8800U extracts most of its hot air using its own built in fan (surprisingly powerful). The exhaust fan at the top is really just a low power fan extracting any heat that escapes from the graphics card. I'd like to change the airflow by purchasing a Scythe Kama Bay 120, blowing air through the system from the front, passing over the memory module chips, passing through a Zalman (CNPS9700NT if it will fit, CNPS9600Cu if it won't), and then passing through the fan on the back fo the case (I'll need to reverse it and remove the CPU duct mount).

Hmm, I guess it's not a problem in yours because you don't have any PCI cards to cool, only the graphics card. If you did have PCI cards you may have a problem.

I think there's too much ventilation to worry about anything.

Not really, say you put a PhysX or XiFi in there (they get pretty hot, but don't have much fan power, if any), they will be sitting in a near vacuum (fan extracting over them, with Ultra fan pulling away). The more cards you add, the worse it'll get.

Also, the airflow in that case could be a lot better, you really need to neaten up those wires a tad.

The cables really don't get in the way of the airflow, they are all pushed to one side of the case at the moment. The case has a really good flow, but it could always be better.

The only add in card I will be getting is a PhysX, and that has active cooling, plus it just doesn't get that hot anyway. The heatsink will be the right way up, and there are some ventilation holes at the top rear.

Hmm, OK. It would be quite interesting to actually test how changing the fan actually affects temps of certain parts.

The second 8800 Ultra?!?!??!??!

Indeed. Hopefully I can add another 4000 or something on to that score by adding a second 8800 Ultra and overclocking the processor to 3.2GHz. The second 8800 Ultra will set me back around £450, so it's not overly expensive and will make a lot of difference!

Hmm, I'm not really sure how much difference it will make, depends on current comparabilities, really.

PCMark05 score at 2.4GHz = 7874
PCMark05 score at 3.075GHz = 10059

That's incredible!
