Sometimes, working in an IT department can be annoying. I think it's just the IT people who tend to get treated like this. After all, working in IT is like no other office job because you will never be stuck at your desk for a whole day, but neither will you be running around all day; you will be doing all sorts of interesting things all day long, and see lots of people every day. Of course, it is hard work and there are strict deadlines, and in these sorts of environments there are procedures and mediums in place for work logging and tracking... Anyway. You can never be in more than one place at any time, even though everybody that you work with would find this highly beneficial, it just ain't possible!

So when people don't get seen to, of course they become frustrated. But the thing is, they don't call us about it, they call their managers. I think this is a stupid way of working and it doesn't get things done. When I get an email from somebody's manager saying that "my guy hasn't been seen yet, what are you up to?" it doesn't make me want to work any harder to help this person. As far as I am concerned, work goes in at the bottom of the pile and I work my way through it. In fact, it makes me think that if the person really wanted this work to be done, then they would call me up, or send me an email, or a text, or pass on a message to contact them instead of <FEMALE DOG> and make out that I have made them upset.

I've had a classic case of this today where a laptop user is unable to access their email. This person knows my office number as this person has called it many times before. Sometimes, however, this person (like many others) likes to call their manager just to have a whine. This decreases productivity, if anything at all.

Anyway, I needed to do that as I felt frustrated. But I feel much better now.
