Yeah :D

Those blood effects aren't available without the PhysX card. Similarly, oil pouring from barrels and pink goo from gravity vortex things aren't available without it. Cloth effects aren't available either. Though there is nothing that directly affects the way the game is played without the card, I wouldn't want to play the game without it, to be honest. It feels better. More eye candy, and roughly the same FPS.

I have heard that Unreal Tournament 2007 (which will also be taking advantage of the PhysX PPU) will feature a game mode available only to those people who own a PhysX. This means that environments should be fully destructible, and the physics will directly affect the way the game is played! I'm looking forward to the demo later this year, and indeed the full game.

Also, you can preorder UT2007 here for ?17.99 inc. delivery and VAT: http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/601818/Unreal_Tournament_2007/Product.html
... But not Cell Factor, yet.

Even more reason to get a PhysX:

CELLFACTOR WILL BE COMPLETELY FREE!

Yes... lets buy a ?100 card so we can play a free game slightly better... slightly flawed.

Come on that's the lamest reply you've ever made to a hardware topic! I know that you know that it's not just for one game, in fact there are 17 titles available at this time with PhysX support, and 8 up-and-coming titles. There are 6 game engines using this technology, including Unreal Engine 3.

Technically this is a game topic...

Anyway, I was just pointing out your new argument for getting a physx was slightly flawed...

Hmm, a list of titles anywhere? And how much are they affected?

Here's the list:

http://www.ageia.com/physx/titles.html

As for getting PhysX just for Cell Factor... well, that's why I got mine.

While there are no Source games on that list, I would think that it can't be long until Source changes. It's probably because their currently concentrating on using multi-core PCs to the best of their ability.

And are there any vids of those liquid effects??? Razz

I must say that the cloth effects are simply incredible in Cell Factor. The liquid, hmm, not so great, but it's still quite cool to see weird pink jelly stuff explode out of barrerls when you drive over them.

I've seen a screenshot of ATI's physics demo, and it looks very pretty. Shows a jet of water shooting at a piece of cloth and running down in to an acrylic looking box. I'll try to find a screeny for you. It certainly looks more impressive than any screenshots showing the PhysX technology, but the idea of sacrificing graphics performance for physics seems totally whack to me, and should never be done.

Edit: Here is the picture. It's a picture of the R600 doing some physics stuff...

Hmm.. that list is wrong... it says roboblitz is 360 only. Also, I doubt many of those games in the out now list would actually make use of the card itself.

As for source, they're already using the licensed Havok engine, and changing to Physx would take a lot of effort, and possibly legal action.

That screenshot looks odd.. there's something not quite right about it.

What you are seeing there is water being poured. It is splashing in a worryingly realistic fashion in the box. I don't really think it looks processed, although you can tell it is a CGI image.

Pour water in a box and take a pic mid-way. If it doesn't blur too much it'll probably look like the screeny.

This looks pretty like the previous screeny. Remember that in the previous screeny the water was being poured from a cloth pipe, and that would affect it.

HOWEVER, might I just add that it's pretty pointless arguing over CGI water being poured when the water is still. We need to observe a vid to see it it is truly right!

Does anyone know of any youtube links?

EDIT: I looked on youtube but could not find any. However, I did find this

I read about this in PCG, it's amazing! Shocked

The Havok physics engine is considered to be a mark below the PhysX one. PhysX is hardware accelerated, so it will always be a lot faster. Havok will probably be powered by GPU's (GPGPU's), so will always sacrifice graphics performance for physics calculations, which sucks, and should never ever be done.

I though Havok was CPU?

Also, Species, format your links correctly in future, please.

Havok are trying to find ways to get their money in to more markets. Oh.. I mean technology in to more products.
