Has anybody noticed all the adverts on websites saying get a free iPod, and what do you have to do? "Shoot The Duck", "Pick the Right Cup", oh yeah, they're all the right cup! Who thinks that this is just one entire big scam in order to get peoples details and to either spam them, or to sell them to companies who make spam, so that they can make money and even in the slight chance they might even get an ipod.

Another one that i've seen, not that common, but theres the ipod pyramid scheme, you sign up by clicking on someones link, and then you put a link on your website, and all you need to get to get your free ipod is 26 people to click on your link and 26 people to click on theirs and "Bang!" free ipod!

Now we all know that these free ipods are just some kind of joke! So dont fall for them!

Now, I wonder if a free ipod advert appears in the google ads at the top?

the shoot the duck and pick the right cup ones (there are many more like them), don't actually work as gaes, as soon as you click on the ad, it can be anywhere, you win.

As for the pyramid schemes, I believe they make money by selling your info to the spammers, at the cost of more than an iPod (or whatever they're selling). Also remember that someone has to be at the bottom of the pyramid, so they don't get the goods.

I wouldn't fall for it - I don't want an iPod, they suck.

Oh, and if you search for [i:60a8d88cce]free ipod[/i:60a8d88cce] in google, you get loads of results including such an advert.

EDIT: I've just realised you meant on this page, I can't see, have adblocked google ads!

Well, suprisingly, the ads are more for anti-spyware, pop-up blockers and phpbb templates, guess those points are more important to the google bots than those to do with the content of the post (well, except for the pop-up blocker)

For your dont want an ipod point, i agree too, creative zens are much better, oh yeah, do you like the look of the creative zen portable media center, ive looked at the software behind it and it is a good gui system

You said about the pick the correct cup ones, well, have you ever found a wrong cup? I have once, although that was in an early version of the ads

Hmm, don't know why those ads come up, don't really care though.

Yes, Creative priduces some amazng MP3 players, though I haven't seen their PMC.

I think origionally they did them correctly, but then realised they would get more traffic without needing to be correct.

These are NOT scams. I saw it on newsnight. U have to join up to a companies thing for a trial, and it costs nothing. You then have to get 5 people to join up, and thats why u get the adds. U have to get at least 5 friends even if you get 20000 u only get 1 iPod or wotever they r giving away. Then u have to cancel ur trial before u start paying. The reason they do this is because it is a way of persuading people by offering an iPod to try out there stuff. It is a modern day TV ad practically. But say u forget to cancel then u r paying. The companies are relying on the fact that u will either forget to cancel, or u may like it and stay on. But it is not a scam. Say u r on Ebay though and u clik the link to get it, wot u shud do is delete the referal=489372 or wotever it is from the address, so u r only on the index page. This is so u r not counted as one of there friends. They put those links up saying "Absoulutely free" so u act as a friend, so if u delete that bit u wont be helping them wiv gettin there ipod

Yeah, but its still a pyramid scheme, and somebody has to be at the bottom. It's not worth giving out your details to those companies either.

Oh damn, I wish I hadn't blocked google ads now!

EDIT: just opened it in IE, and all I get is "cheap iPods" ads.
