If I was religious, I would be thanking the gods right now. But because I'm some lonely sucker working in an IT department on my own, I am just dancing around singing YMCA.

You mean Blackcomb/Vienna right?

I don't think they'll make it. After all, >$2,000,000,000 is a lot of money to spend on developing a skin, don't you think? That and I don't think Vista will be very successful as there is little reason to 'upgrade'.

LOL, I doubt MicroSoft will make another OS like Vista, took them far too long. Linux and MacOS are coming up now, with technology that is pounding Windows into the ground. Windows only lives on brand recognition and program availability.

Well Windows is on a self-destruct as far as Microsoft as a company is concerned. All the anti-pirate technologies such as having technologies stopping people playing HD-DVDs after 2010 will really suck. As far as I'm aware at the moment, this means that all laptop owners will be affected and even most monitors now still don't quality for the secure monitor rubbish thats good enough to play HD-DVDs, the ********. They even have stopped things such as screenshotting Media Centre when its maximized incase your a pirate and trying to rip a HD-DVD at full quality through it, what a load of ****.

Vienna, hmm according to Microsoft's internal timetables and the way they were originally going to plan this out, it is going to be a "major" release, whereas Vista was just a sidestep, something like "You cant get from Whistler to Blackcomb without first going through Longhorn" I believe they used internally. If they do make it, maybe they'll actually make it decent, but then again, if what I've just said is true, then it'll be at least 2010 before Vienna or whatever they change it to later again is released. Maybe Vista isn't the last, but on Microsoft's part, they're looking at more evolutionary changes to their OS as apposed to the whole "OMG WE GOT NEW STUFF" apparent revolutionary stuff.

As a side note, anyone got any DX10 info, how good compared to DX9?

Hmm, MS are basically breaking tehmselves now. All this anti-piracy crap is nonsense, it doesn't stop the pirates, it just stop the legitimate users from doing what they want...

On the other hand I've heard a lot of good stuff about DX10, apart from it being Vista only.

Just like people who own guns....The legitimate people have to go through thousands of forms and stuff to say its legal, when its the illegal people that they should be worried about Mad Stupid people.

It would cost alot less if they just didnt bother with all the piraty stuff. For one, it wont alienate the people who want to use the system. And it may encourage new users to it....(however unlikely)

Yeah, exactly, if people want to do piracy, they will, but legitimate users will be hindered in regular use because of all the extra crap, such as needing a new screen, IIRC.

I'm not sure whether users will need a monitor with a HDMI cable or not. I think all the encryption will be built in to the codec rather than determined by the hardware.

Well there was rumors that you would need a monitor that tells the computer its not a recording device or something...

You do, otherwise quality is reduced to that of equal to to a little above standard definition DVDs, I been reading alot about it thanks to Peter Guttman's paper on the subject.

However its only if the directors turn things on, then theres whole loads of rubbish about code revocation and 10 minutes originally from disc in to start playing, then tilt bits and more rubbish. If you have a couple of hours to spare visit http://www.twit.tv/sn74 to view the information on it.

Stupid I know, but pirates can get around it if they want, so whats the point?

The point is to piss off the legitimate users by pretending they are stopping pirates.
