This is a poll requesting your personal opinion on whether the Role Playing forum should be ressurected. I would like everyone to vote.

As a side note, we already have a member offering to run the RP forum, but he is on holiday at the moment, but should be back towards the end of this month, which would be when the forum would be brought back, if wanted. Also not that we still have the data from the old RP forum, and I can get you some of that data on request. This could include your character bios, if you don't want o writ them out again.

I think you should bring back RP. However, I think that the whole system of it should be totally revamped.

Since this is PHBB 3, which is apparantly very modable, I was wondering if it would be possible to create something along the lines of Urban Dead, but for members of this forum only.

Everyone could be against or allied into clan's (ie the mods v the normal users).

It would be chaos!!!

Finally, who is the member offering to run the RP forum?

phpBB is very modable, but it is also quite hard. this is because it has to be coded directly into the files using php code and a mod on the scale of what you are asking would be very difficult. we also do not wish to mod phpBB3 until we have the final release as otherwise we could cause complications and compatability issues beyond what we are already likely to face.

Anyway, UrbanDead isn't RP, it's an RPG, I know they sound similar, but RPG means you play a character with items and stuff and it is mostly based on (virtual) dice roles whereas RP is based on you assuming a role and then acting like that, using text to say all you moves etc. It results in a very fluid and interesting combat, even for observers (readers) as nearly anything is possible.

This isn't saying your idea is bad, just that it would be quite hard to do and isn't technically RP.

I do not wish to reveal the contributor's name at this point, but he may do so when he gets back from his holiday.

I am unclear as to how that would work considering the differences between the two. Anyway, it would be too much of a mod, I think the normal forum form works fine.

How dare you describe it like that. No I will not make you an RP forum. Why? Because I am too busy working on other things.

Oh yeah Grim, no he doesnt want a modded phpbb2, he wants a complete homemade version of phpbb2 that has all the features, which to be perfectly honest, is pointless in itself.

I dont no whether to have it back or not. All the truoble it caused in the first place. Maybe its not worth going through it again. However, it was a very active section of the forum, so it is possible.

Just clearer rules and the like would be needed.

Yeah, the conflict was my main worry, however, i think we can avoid that this time.

see, my idea would solve all conflict, clear rules, and still have all the fun, just it would mean, everything is clear and all can be sure whether its being modded or not, plus i have some other ideas, which may, or may not work, but will only be mentioned if the thing gets made. And no, i have no care whether i win or loose, id just like it to be clear that the game was fair, and not like an ever lasting game of attack, dodge attack, dodge attack, amazin attack which cant be dodged, oooooo, that was just a robot, hahaha

LOL, yeah, I get your point. That's the main problem with RP, it's hard to judge. It should be alright if people don't take it too seriously.
