I require:
1 x TV tuner (so I can watch TV through my computer)
1 x Blu-ray drive (for future blu-ray Matrix and other awesome films)
1 x Monitor worthy of unleashing Blu-ray + TF2 at huuuge resolution

My findings (I expect them to be shite):
TV tuner
Blu-ray drive
Monitor

Any advice?

If you're getting a BR drive, get a monitor that supports 1080p (1920x1080). For the TV tuner and drive, just get the cheapest. For the monitor, read some reviews.

As for PCI vs USB, they're probably about the same performance wise.

Hello :)

As discussed, first 2 items are fine and your choice of monitor is fine too :)

I use a Dell G2410 which is 24 inch and LED backlit, it's very nice but costs about 2x as much.

Still... nothing beats the Dell 30 incher. There is something very sexual about that monitor.

A good line for an advert for the monitor... and I think it's to do with the 30inches ><
The price isn't sexy though

You need a TV licence whenever you want to watch or record TV as it's broadcast (so yes). This does mean, however, you don't need one for iPlayer etc.

Don't you get a license to do that when you purchase the means to do so? :/

Unfortuantly that is the case. In all fairness iPlayer really should need a tv licence, its stupid for it not to.

Does the 360 need one now, because you can have sky tv on it. I am aware this is off topic a little but if you have no ariel and cant get a picture but can still get 360, does it count

Can the 360 receive any of the BBC channels?

If not then, no you won't need a tv license. Just a sky sub.

Also forget about a tv license as long as someone in the same house as you pays then its fine.

WRONG.

You must have a TV licence if you record/watch ANY TV as it is broadcast. The TV license is NOT a subscription to the BBC.

Note that this also applies to online services, but only where they broadcast at the same time as the TV (such as iPlayer live).
