If you're looking to improve the performance of your PC, a faster hard drive can work wonders. Windows will load faster, you'll load maps faster in CounterStrike: Source and most importantly, you will zone quicker in EverQuest 2. That and you'll be able to transfer files and folders on your hard drive quicker, so installations will be faster.

You could purchase a 10K RPM drive like a WD Velociraptor and pay that little bit extra for that little bit extra. You could go all out and purchase a SCSI/SAS 15K RPM drive if money really is no object. Then at about the same price point there are the SSDs.

SSDs are currently really expensive. It's not unusual to be paying over £2/GB. But SSDs are good because they are FAST. In some new drives, you can achieve 280MB/s read and 200MB/s write. This is so much faster than even 2 Velociraptor's in a RAID0. Put 4 SSDs on one controller and you'll be peaking on the bandwidthometer.

Thankfully, OCZ have come to save us: http://hothardware.com/News/OCZ-Colossu ... aks-Cover/

Cheap SSDs here we come!

Interesting. Could use a nice little ssd for windows, 64gb would be all I would need / want until the price came down to that of normal drives.

We already got word of the starting price for the entry-level 128GB drive in OCZ's new Colossus line of SSDs, but details on the standout 1TB model have unfortunately been quite a bit harder to come by. OCZ's now finally cleared up most of those remaining questions, however, and announced that the drive will be available mid-August for a jaw-dropping $2,500 (give or take a few bucks). The 500GB drive will also apparently be available at the same time, although OCZ doesn't seem to be saying anything more than that it'll be "less expensive."

So much for the cheap rumour. I approve EconoFail on this drive.
