I don't know if anyone knows much about this area these days, but I am wondering if anyone knows of which cameras are decent these days.

What I ideally want is a decent camera that can also take decent 1080p footage (e.g. Recording LAN) and that is closer to the compact size than my previous cameras.

Price wise I don't mind too much as long as I'm getting decent quality for my money, and as long as I'm not breaking the bank.

Anyone who knows anything, thanks.

My dad recently bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF3, I presume he did some research so it may be worth a look. It's a high end compact camera with interchangeable lenses, looks pretty good for the little I've seen of it. No idea about video.

Im bringing a really good camera for pictures. Dont know what you call them but It's litteraly translated as mirror reflected camera in Norway.
I'm probably gonna take loads of photos : ) I love taking photos! :D

Right, thanks for pointing me in the direction of the interchangeable lens compact camera area, I didn't realise they were decently priced these days. After looking at a few different cameras, it would appear that the Panasonic camera you mentioned gives the best features (and more important image quality) for the price. Now to order and get used to it before LAN...

simple, zoom out enough that you'll take a picture of the lens hood

But how did you take that picture?

Also, taking a pic of a camera with itself can be done rather simply with a mirror.
