Just out of curiosity.

Do you have to put in your steam details or does it install a key logger?

If the former, the morons deserve to get their account hacked, if the later that's actually a pretty smart virus.

Post subject:  Re: Steam Phish Attempt

AFAIK, you have to enter your details. I've heard the "drunk" excuse already.

What I don't get is why would anyone think they need to loging to Steam to watch a frag vid :/

Indeed it is, and a surprisingly large number of people seem to fall for this sort of thing. :(

In that case they deserve it, it is the crudest of forms of account hijacking... Harsh i know, but people need to know to not just believe everything.

Wasn't expecting that tone :|

But yeah :/ I havent got any of these off anyone yet, but you gotta be pretty dopey to be able to fall for it :/ Anyway, even if it was some form of keylogger, how many of us actually type in passwords and stuff now?

Post subject:  Re: Steam Phish Attempt

I'm assuming he means we get websites to remember our logins and steam to auto-login...but I can't be sure

Post subject:  Re: Steam Phish Attempt

so how does it actually get ya details do you have to type them in?

Author:  Wynney [ Mon Dec 29, 2008 10:21 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Steam Phish Attempt

does this one need you to enter the correct details? ive known some peoples accounts have been hacked writing incorrect details such as buggeroffyouhacker noob as user name.

my steam automatically logs in, but i dont save passwords for anything else, too risky!

Post subject:  Re: Steam Phish Attempt

i still havnt a clue how they do it

Author:  Skillers [ Mon Dec 29, 2008 11:09 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Steam Phish Attempt

Well, they join a big group with a new (empty) account, start adding people from that. They send the message to 100 people, a couple are going to fall for it. They then have 100 friends each, etc. Sad, but true.

Post subject:  Re: Steam Phish Attempt

thats just childish do they do it just for the games or do can ya make money out of it?

Author:  Skillers [ Tue Dec 30, 2008 12:16 am ]
Post subject:  Re: Steam Phish Attempt

Erm, either to get the games for a short period or sell the accounts to gullible people, who lose them after a week when the account is recovered.

Post subject:  Re: Steam Phish Attempt

Its so they dont have to rebuy the games when they get VAC banned
