I think someone coulda been lazy there.

'oh overseer my son asked me a question and i asked th town and weall wish to know, how were we made?'

'um by your parents i should hope.'

'No no no i mean how were the trees made and the ground we stand on and everyone, where did it all come from?'

'Err......they were all made by someone more powerful then me.'

'is that possible?'

'Yes you may call them God! and he selected me to lead us to better times!'

At least thats how it could of started, and the worlds first preacher.

Will, old science may have been like a religion (with the examples you gave) but modern science isn't, and I have said why multiple times already.

yes, i agree i said why also ^^
modern science is quite different from religion, which is why i view it as a modern version.
if everyone followed science instead of religion, we would avoid quite a few wars.
Logic is the God of this new religion.

I guess you could say that, but I still think religion and science are two separate things and should stay that way, especially in schools (all those religious nuts in America try to get creationism and intelligent design taught in science - it's not science, it's religion, science supports the big bang and evolution, and has enough evidence to be considered true).

your right. some religious people take it way to far. they are usually unintelligent people, who can't think for themselves.
they heard it from there parents the way it is and they tell to there children, there is no 'why'
'do this, or you will go to hell' that is very different from science.

but consider Buddhism, it seems to follow science for the most part.
they don't believe in god, or creation. they agree with evolution.
they are closer to science than they are too the religious nuts around the world.

I personally do not consider Buddhists as Theists (and o0nly kind of a religion), it's more a way of life than anything. Also, religions can follow science, but they have stuff that they beleive is true without proof.

Buddhists aren't Theist. but they are a religion.
there 'way of life' is a good way to live.
all i mean is if things near science are considered a religion, then science can be to in a broad sense of the word.

none of this is real....its all part of the matrix.

i believe in a God, but with no standard theories of religion. i am open to opinions and appreciate every one of them - saying someone is stupid for example for thinking something is very wrong.

It can't be proven (scientifically (yet for now))..this is why it is regarded as a 'leap of faith', one way of describing it though is saying that it is best to believe because:
1) If you die and believed - and it was to be true in the end you would end up in Heaven
2) If you died and believed but it wasn't true - no harm done!

So evidently believing is risk free! But still, i don't believe in God as well as many other people.
Though, on the other hand i really don't see the harm in believing (apart from extremists) as it doesn't do anything bad to you as well as others around you - it in fact can help some people! As well as this, relgion has been built as a base and guided humanity in 'how to live life' i.e. "thou shalt not kill" and the ten commandments - without religion it would just be law - so commiting a crime without religion ultimately brings a thought of means that nothing happens to you even in the afterlife whereas with religion it does. It's like another extra punishment so it also strikes as a 'fear' imposing to the people who do bad things i.e. 'no one knows but only God.' so fundamentally i think religion reduces crime!
Despite this i still don't believe in God, i have not personally experianced God and the thought of believing because others do and how they tell us everything about him when they don't really know because they're just believing what others have told them etc. etc. just tells me that no one actually knows what God is - hence 'LEAP OF FAITH' ^^

My parents are Buddists ^-^ - i was brought up and taken to buddist groups and large gatherings at the age of 5+
But even at that age without anyone telling me how religion is only a 'leap of faith' and not proven i somehow knew instinctively and never believed even though i went - its not bad though cos they teach you about the way of life, it's just when they refer to other supernatural stuff etc. that i didn't get - at that age i was like "So adults don't believe in ghosts, fairies, santas - but they believe in this?" :`

i have no problems with Buddhists or their way of thinking :)
its most of the others that piss me off.

this is one of the things i hate with religion.
Anything too convert you.

If God would send you to hell for choosing not to believe in him despite how you lived your life, then God is not all loving. Hence heaven is not as good a place as it is made out to be, and by the same logic, hell mightn't be as bad.

Heh, it's a very famous argument, known as Pascal's Wager. It is fraught with many holes, namely the ne you pointed out, along with which god to believe in and would a god really appreciate a fake belie for a persn's own benefit, being that it is a selfsih act?

agreed.
an all powerful god wouldn't be fooled.
an all loving god wouldn't punish regardless.

Religion and Insanity are soo closely related to each other, sometimes it is difficult to see them apart.
Chirstianity.... claimed about the 7 days. Science comes and proves big bang. Christianity immediately say the big bang was God's work. Evolution theory. Chirstianity drop the instan-spawn as humans and go for evolution by God's work.
I'm confused by that :S

ahh evolution, but here's the thing: if we were made in the image of God - and it teaches that everything was created without evolution but instantly with a purpose...
How does the 'appendix' from our body fit into the category?:
1) The appendix is believed to have no specific function in our body...so does this prove that not EVERYTHING has a purpose so God made a mistake??!!!!
2) But the appendix is believed to also USE TO serve a purpose but eventually evolved to have no specific function... IF this is true, then it still doesn't fit into the category as fundamentalists believe that everything was created 'instantly' and without evolution.

so...ermm...??????!

i am not in a religion or believe, but sometimes, if it is really important i am praying before sleeping. but mostly only for special people.
