I'm a little bit fed up of work at the moment.

I actually enjoy my job and the things that I need to do. Fixing computers is my thing. However, I feel that I am put under unrealistic demands and am expected to meet impossible targets, and because of this, nothing is ever good enough at least to the management.

I work a 37.5 hour week. That means I work from 08:30 until 17:00 with a one hour lunch break usually some time between 12:30 and 14:30. I was just saying good bye to my manager at 17:10 last night when he said, "Where are you going?" and explained to me that I need to stay until 17:30 now... but not only that - my hours may change at some point in the future so that I need to provide cover from 06:30 until 18:00. This is rediculous. Even if it meant I could leave a couple of hours earlier, I just cannot do those hours. I cannot start late, and I cannot leave late. So, if my hours do change, then I will need to leave my job. It is as simple as that, and there is no other way about it.

I can see exactly what will be said if and when this does come around - and that is questioning why I cannot work these hours. It is to do with transport. I'll be damned if I am going to spend months and months of my wages so that I can drive a car to work, just so that I can get to work 2 hours earlier. I would rather explore more opportunities to work from home than travel more. If I have to travel any further to work, then that will also force me to leave.

On top of this, I have been told that I need to improve my performance by closing more fault calls in a day. Well, I am sorry but this is bullshit. According to one of our spreadsheets, my performance rating is clearly very high since I close off almost 100% of my fault calls within the agreed SLA. So there is nothing to complain about here, surely. How is it possible to close at least 4 cases in a day when you only receive 2 or 3? Can someone explain that for me?

I am very much in the mood for taking a big break. I am planning on taking at least a couple of days holiday just so that I can stay at home and play on EverQuest 2 and Team Fortress 2 for the whole day. That will make me feel much better. Of course, if I receive a work call, it will go straight to my answerphone because I will have my work mobile turned off.

If things do start taking a turn for pastures not-so-green, for instance if I am required to travel further or more often or earlier or later to work, then I will just have to leave my job. I am 100% confident that I can find a job similar to mine that is local and pays a lot better. Oh, and don't get me started on the pay... sure it is probably good for someone of my age, but I was on this sort of money when I was 17, not 20. It's about time things changed there...

That seriously sucks. If you have a choice of a more local and higher-paying job, I'd nab it immediately.

if u give me the work number we can all make a few fake calls for you then your turnaround would be like 14/day!

good luck at work, and hope a suitable solution is found for you soon enough. and the costs of transport arent + stress arent worth the wages of a couple more hours. make sure u look after yourself still

They're complaining even though you are probably near a model employee from what you say?

That's messed up. If you can get a better job, you might want to get it.

I say.. Save up some money until next summer, hand in your notice. Take a months break from working then find yourself a much better job to suit you personally.

I work from 8:30 till 5, get half hour for lunch, I actually now had got rid of another job, but now they have put me back on it this morning and added something else, so I am now doing 5 jobs, and anything else anyone throws at me, I.E filing, printing things they cannot access, photo copying... and the NVQ2 they want me to do.

TBH I agree with aczn about pay matters, for all that i do, i dont get paid enough, others are on 15-16k im on 12.5k but they do less than me, and I'm the one that if I missed a day everything would fall back, because I put the orders on.

I was going to find a new job, but after a while of thinking about it, I decided that I would do this NVQ2 first, but from talking to a few of my work friends, who are also not enjoying it here and doing NVQ, have said 'I'm still looking for a new job, updating my CV etc, and you may be lucky enough to find a job you want that will allow you to carry on your NVQ training.' So taking their advice I am going to continue looking for somewhere that will allow me to be more involved with everyone.

As I mentioned above I work from 8:30 till 5 with half hour for lunch, I am allowed breaks but after I mentioned this to Sandra, she said that breaks here are not paid for and I will need to stay to 5:30, but others have breaks and dont stay any later. Also when I started taking my breaks I was in the other room but still answering phones / talking work matters, so just because I was not at my desk answering phones I have to stay later... Which angered me, so I now do not take my breaks, though by law I am supposed to have 10 minutes for every hour I work. But I will not be staying later than 5 unless its by my own choice because I have a lot of work to do. (Which I don't.. other wise I wouldn't be on here).

As for the members of Staff... I think there should be a big group meeting and let people get there problems out in the open, as people are always closing doors and talking in private about unrelated matters to work. I believe Sandra is aware of this as she does it herself. but many people do complain as they need to get in theses rooms to get folders, fax machine, printers, etc.

your stood around doing next to nothing. Yesterday they set someone on sweeping the entire car park and 2 hours later they told him to sweep out the other car park for blockbuster o.0 he was pissed off. You get told off for doing nothing when everything is clean and there's no customers. Then they find you jobs like scrubbing the outside walls down to spend your time. Which is pointless cause we're having a refurb in october.

I need a new job, but by the sound of it i don't want to take up either of your jobs o.0.

My job isnt that bad, after you look over that stuff, we do sometimes have a laugh... or they have a laugh n i sit in the other hearing them...

I will be getting one, but if im doing an nvq not much point in applying, and then next (school) year im moving out of this hell hole... and going somewhere else

i hate being a chef i realy do 6 years of my life down the drain and now i cant get a skilled job cus im a chef fat lot a good that did me i like being out dooors praps cuting trees down or enviromental agent or just play games for a living <.................. neva gonna happen (sighs)

Apparently the jobs in the office here require computer skills, and they heavily penalise those that are not familiar with Word and Excel... and how much do you think they actually use those applications? Well... next to never.
