Or in our case, a fair use policy that didn't originally exist has decloaked. After a call to support we now have an extra 5GB allowance for the rest of the month I believe.

Now looking for a new ISP.

Xilo's Pro 16 broadband offer looks great, but the Tibberton exchange we are on is not ADSL2+ enabled, and from what I can tell, no roll out date yet set.

You probably can't get any good service until you get LLU operators:
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search
(It's not working for me atm)

Until then you're stuck with rebranded BT internet, which is rubbish.

According to this, no LLU for us either.

Yeah, it's the same as Newent. Unfortunately we're not big enough to get LLU. Looking at it, the ASDL2+ (also known as 21CN) is an even rarer thing, something that BT are rolling out. Put simply, you won't get any good internet service from that exchange.

Wut? You do know everything has a fair use policy right? And I seriously hope that "rest of the month" uses a different month to the calendar month. If not... wth were you doing!?

There is no possible way I could have downloaded 40GB in three days on this internet connection. It must use a different month.

Aah so 40GB is the limit. Quite reasonable for connections these days IIRC.

That's a pretty reasonable limit for a BT resale line. And the month will be defined by billing date (ie every month after you were first connected).

And yes, everything has a fair usage policy these days, some are better than others (the O2 LLU service one doesn't ever seem to be acted on, I know I've hammered it, and I've never heard stories of it being used).

BT resale lines (IE what you can get) are always pretty strict on the limits, 40GB is definitely on the higher end of the spectrum. Have a look into the policy, though, see if they have a "peak time". I know my home connection has a peak time (4pm-midnight) with a pretty strict FUP (~20GB/mo causes limits) but out of those times it's pretty much unlimited. I just time my downloads to not use the peak limit when I can.
