Hello there.
I have been testing out FC5 x86_64 for the past couple of days. I have had constant trouble with the networking, though...
If I try to connect to gAIM; it won't find any servers. If I try to update software then it can't retrieve the latest package information from the Internet, and if I try to go to any websites, they do not load...
However I can access private resources, e.g.: a web server running on my other computer, and I can access the gateway IP (192.168.0.1) and configure my ADSL settings there.
Something that confuses me is that if I go in to the network utlities and ping www.google.com, it tells me that it gets a timely response from 216.239.59.104. If I browse to http://216.239.59.104/ then it takes me to the Google homepage! Confusing or what!?
I've tried pretty much everything with the network connection, and even managed to successfully install the nForce4 networking driver for my distribution, buit to no avail. What could the problem be?
I'll offer a lot of VD's to he/she who knows.

Guys, I sorted it! I've been having this exact same problem with many-a-distro for the past few weeks/months... The problem was that I was putting in the wrong details for IP/Subnet Mask/Gateway/DNS. Always make sure that these simple things are correct and you will be fine.
I am glad to say that I am typing this out in Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.1 on Fedora Core 5! The next thing to do is to install Firefox 1.5.0.4! I'll see you then.
Also... I can't seem to get to sleep tonight, and I can't help thinking that the smell I keep smelling is coming from my computer, and it doesn't smell very healthy. Smells sort of like burning components.
I'm feeling pretty cack after not having slept tonight (it's currently 4:08am) so I'm probably going to have the day off work today. I might pop online some time if I wake up around midday and just check if there are any Nforce 590 for Intel S775 motherboards coming out in the next few days...
Laters guys!

Upgraded to Firefox 1.5.0.4 by using the built in package manager. It worked first time.
BTW, I feel dead as heck!

I'm at work at the moment and I feel totally exhausted. Though I think it was worth it -- I will always remember this strange day now... Lots happened last night... My brother and his girlfriend had a hard time over some weird phone calls, then I finally got my first Linux distro working, then AMD bought ATI. Good day today, though the keyboard keeps on spinning around now that the tiredness is setting in... I was talking to some guy about processors and motherboards just a minute ago and I can't remember what I said, but I think I was rambling on about 'bloody small screws on the motherboard keep getting rounded off every time I try to remove something'... When I get home I'm going to turn on my computer, admire my new OS, then hit the sack.

OK, so the only problem I have had so far is with Flash... There isn't an x86_64 package at the moment. Never mind. Less annoying adverts I guess. Shame I lose out on your cool signatures though, which double up as internal advertisements, you buggers.

I have experienced one more problem.
I was amazed to find out that Unreal Tournament 2004 comes with a Linux installer (I have the DVD version). You should see the little penguin just beside the ratings information and all the licensing stuff. linux-installer.sh is in the root of the disc. It brings up a graphical installer and does everything for you.
But when patching the game to 3369.1, it kicks up a fuss about missing some files.
The problem is down to using a 64-bit operating system. It frustrates me that big names like Epic don't want to cater for newer, more advanced operating systems. The only solution at this point is to downgrade to 32-bit Fedora. Granted, I will hardly notice any performance difference, but it's just err.. bloody useless having this new technology when nobody develops for it.

Most games don't like dual core either - it causes a lot of bugs unless you force it to one core only.
