I'm using Mandriva Linux to type this up. It's the first distribution of Linux I've managed to install and configure successfully to my hard drive. For once, I'm not running a Live-CD.

I hope to do more development work in this environment. It's interesting to see how Firefox displays things slightly differently in Linux, compared to Windows.

My network seems to be configured correctly, but Firefox doesn't load certain pages. Gateway configured, static IP sorted, but still having some issues with networking.

I need to install the ATI drivers for my system, also, so I may not want to get too attached to my new operating system. Haha! By the way, I replaced my Vista partition with this, and I'm quite glad!

All I did was type in www.ati.com, and X server crashed, never to be started again. End of my Linux distro. Uninstalled. Miffed.

I just tried the new Fedora Core 5, and it was working great - apart from Firefox, which didn't want to load certain websites (such as Google and the ATI site).

Went on my Windows PC to download the ATI display drivers for Linux. Installed them. It killed it. X Server wouldn't start again. So I'm back on Vista right now, and I'm downloading Debian Etch through BitTorrent. I'll let you know how I got on in roughly 4 weeks. I'm away from home for a week now, back Friday, but only to sleep. Then I'm off on Saturday for 2 weeks in Cornwall. When I'm back, I'll come back home, then I'm off for a week again at my girlfriends.

Bugger, turns out that one of my brother's mates came over and slept in my room for the night. He asked if it was OK to turn my PC off because it is too loud, my brother foolishly said yes, not realising I was doing about 8 gigs of downloads. Never mind. I'll have to kick it off when I get back home on Thursday for a couple of hours. I'm back on Friday.
