At least, I think it's a new type, that's what the article's title is. It appears to store more than normal memory, runs faster than your average hard drive, and uses less energy.

Depending on the cost it takes to manufacture, I'd say that especially with the fact it uses less energy, we might be able to buy this at affordable prices in the future.

Might even be around at the time I decide to buy a new PC.

Interesting, but SSDs are already lightning fast (just search youtube for some comparisons). Also, there have already been drives that run as fast as RAM, they had an onboard lithium battery to stop data loss at power down. They were fast, but in the end, SSDs were pretty similar in performance and massively increased storage, massively reduced cost and lower energy consumption.
