This car is going 50mph in only a 20mph (tail) wind, making an effective 30mph headwind.

Spoiler for How it works, I think:
The wheels are attached to the rotor directly.

Starting off (tail wind): The wind pushes the vehicle forwards (with rotors locked and wheels disengaged), this forwards motion starts the wheels turning, at which point the rotor is unlocked and engaged with the wheel. This starts the rotor turning as to give a pushing force from the rotor, added to the tail wind accelerates the vehicle further.

On reaching no airspeed the vehicle will continue to accelerate forwards due to it's existing speed keeping the rotor turning.

Above windspeed (headwind): Now the rotor is been driven by the wind, which will then speed up and drive the wheels faster, increasing the headwind and driving the effect more. It reaches it's top speed when the drag force is in equilibrium with the force driving the rotors around.


A very clever yet incredibly simple thing.
