Right, so a problem suddenly appeared on my website today for [b:04678b434a]ABSOLUTELY NO REASON AT ALL[/b:04678b434a]. I have not made any code changes since the start of today apart from an issue with a username displaying as a user ID. But the problem did not start then; it randomly started about 5 hours later... Cookies can no longer be set, and redirects no longer work...

Right, so I have upgraded from PHP 5.0.4 to PHP 5.1.1 and upgraded Apache 2.0.54 to Apache 2.0.55... But the problem still remains! I turn on error reporting in PHP and it gives some rubbish about headers already being sent; [b:04678b434a]BUT THEY HAVEN'T!!!!!!!!![/b:04678b434a].

So anyway, I have spent about 3 or 4 hours trying to fix this and have got absolutely nowhere (look at the time of this post). It looks nasty, so I'm just going to *completely* re-work the cookie management, post variable management and get variable management.

Does anybody have any ideas before I go and [i:04678b434a]totally destroy[/i:04678b434a] the website as you know it? I'm sure it will work after a complete change, but is there anything you guys know of?

And after a complete redesign; the same thing happens. Redirection header warnings are flying about all over the place, but they are in very restricted code, so this is [b:357a2d6916]NOT POSSIBLE[/b:357a2d6916]!! Anyway... the website will be down for a long time, I sense..

Oh, damn!

Sounds like it's not a problem ith your code, probably a virus (Windows) screwing it up for you. Shame you can't run it on a seperate Linux server.

Indeed. I had a go at it before, but I cannot get my machine on the internet using a USB ADSL modem. I'll need to invest in a broadband router for when my other PC is built anyway... I'll buy it now.

Yeah, routers are useful. You are very impulsive.

I've been meaning to buy it ever since my parents wanted a new computer, so not as impulsive as you might think ;)

I'm holding off on the order at the moment because everybody is charging rediculous delivery rates.

Yeah, I guess. It's just the way you go "oh, I'll get that now". And then you've bought 3 mice and nearly got a new graphics card. etc.

Yeah, postage sucks.

OK I just bought the stuff. It cost me ?200 because I got the best stuff out (and wanted to make sure it has the best chance of sending signal through walls, even though walls in our house are very thin, and floors, because it's about 500 years old)

Modern wireless kit shouldn't have any problems at all.

It depends. The signal is broken just as much with an older system than a newer one, usually. It depends how good the receiver is at making sense of the signal that has been sent. A thick wall or ceiling, or diagonals, or metal pipes, and it'll crap up the signal. Luckily, my other computer will be in the room opposite (almost a straight line), and my computer will be directly above.

His website is working now. He just loaded a backup of the code. Windows probably screwed it up.

There was no reason for it; it just happened. I completely removed Apache and PHP, then reinstalled the latest versions and it worked fine. This is off because I hadn't changed the httpd.conf file or the php.ini file.
