What does everybody think of the new HP/VoodooPC / HP with VoodooDNA Firebird?

http://www.voodoopc.com/#/productsfirebird

I personally think it is the best looking full system I have ever seen.

Spoiler for An IRC chat on this topic:
[22:10] <azcn2503> you all seen the hp firebird?
[22:11] <Skillers> no?
[22:11] <azcn2503> Skillers you probably won't like it
[22:11] it's a gaming pc with laptop parts
[22:11] watercooled, and it looks nice
[22:12] <Skillers> i appreciate a good bit of inginuity
[22:12] and if its voodoo designed, its got to be good
[22:13] ah, its the dwarf cousin of the blackbird
[22:13] <azcn2503> indeed
[22:15] <Skillers> i like it
[22:15] i can imagine plonking it under a HD TV
[22:15] and laighing at the console fan boys
[22:15] hack it to work with 360 controlers for extra lulz
[22:16] <azcn2503> hehehe, indeed
[22:16] <Skillers> get a NAT for storing all the pr0... I mean, recorded TV and movie collection and you're good to go
[22:17] <azcn2503> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgUjMlxyMk8
[22:17] <Skillers> though, tbh, something like that would be something id want to do myself
[22:18] <azcn2503> i imagine you looking at firebird and thinking of all sorts of scary metal working tools
[22:18] not my bag
[22:18] filthy engineer
[22:18] <Skillers> lul, the fanciest thing I have access to is a minature pillar drill
[22:18] the dremel i have isnt that good
[22:18] and the jigsaw is bah
[22:20] <azcn2503> anyway yes, that youtube link is a hp/voodoo video
[22:21] <Skillers> hmm, when hes carrying it, doesnt look much smaller than mine
[22:21] <azcn2503> indeed, looks large-ish
[22:22] <Skillers> and the external psu is meh
[22:22] i would do one myself
[22:22] and better :D
[22:23] <azcn2503> pics? specs?
[22:23] <Skillers> emphasis on the would
[22:23] if i had a use, the money and the time
[22:24] <azcn2503> i'm still eyeing up a phenom system
[22:24] <Skillers> ok, the firebird - my very poorly informed opinion - nice concept, bit of a lacklustre result
[22:25] <azcn2503> you think? i think voodoo did good with this one. it's a gaming capable pc that could appeal to joe average, imo
[22:25] <Skillers> i think a phenom might make a nice front room pc
[22:25] well, im not their target customer
[22:26] it has a really nice concept
[22:26] but its really not all it could be
[22:26] but it could be great for people
[22:26] *other
[22:26] <azcn2503> ok, price
[22:26] models start at $1799
[22:26] <Skillers> its shit
[22:26] <azcn2503> settled
[22:27] so anyway, yeah, the phenom quad's are actually not half bad from an energy efficiency perspective
[22:27] <Skillers> its really not worth that cost
[22:27] it does have a nice processor
[22:27] but the graphics are a bit of a letdown
[22:27] and looking at the watercooling system, its a bit meh
[22:27] <azcn2503> yeah, it's nothing super special, not like EK or anything

And then we talked about cheap media PCs etc

So, basically, nice idea, moderate implimentation, rediculous cost.

It would be worth keeping an eye on. If the minimum spec is a Q9450 with two 9800S chips in SLI (MXM I guess) and 2x 250GB hard drives, and the whole lot is watercooled, and it comes with a 3 year on-site warranty, then it will be good.

The Firebird is available in 2 non-customisable models - 802 model and 803 model.

The 802 has a 2.66GHz quad (Penryn) whereas the 803 has a 2.83GHz quad (Penryn).
The 802 has 500GB (2x250GB) HDD space whereas the 803 has 640GB (2x320GB). Both 2.5" 5400rpm drives in a stripe.

The 803 has an X-Fi card, Blu-ray player and wireless connection over the 802 which has on-board sound, DVD burner, and wired connection only.

Both models come with 2 watercooled Geforce 9800S in SLI and 4GB of DDR2 800MHz RAM. The CPU and chipset are watercooled on both models.

The 802 is $1799.99 and the 803 is $2099.99 - the 803 represents the best value for money with a faster processor, Blu-ray disc player and an X-Fi soundcard. The 802 is still a solid gaming system. The fact that both come watercooled in such a small form factor is an achievement and it looks very smart.

In real money, this costs just under £1200 for the 802 and just under £1400 for the 803. It's not an expensive gaming PC, but then it's not the best either.

If I had one, I would not want to tuck it in a corner, but have it as a main feature in my room. But then I use graphics cards as fap material...

:)

Update: Looks like I am one of the first people to report this. I checked the http://www.voodoopc.com site first off, and it said "Available January 9", so I had a quick browse on the http://www.hp.com site and found the link to buy it. By the time I check back on the VoodooPC site, they say it's now available. I just witnessed the live launch of a product!

Hmm, tad expensive for my liking, but a good system. Maybe if it was 20% cheaper.

I'm guessing that's the HDD score, seeing as it's using laptop HDDs.

Blackbird is still available (I think) at http://www.hp.com/blackbird/ but it looks like a telephone order only machine at the moment. Looks like the Firebird has pretty much replaced it...
