Coolermaster Wavemaster (Silver) mini-Review

Hey guys!!

Today, I am going to be reviewing the Coolermaster Wavemaster... well, from an aesthetics perspective, as I actually have no system to put in it at the moment. This is a picture review and will be unfriendly to people who live in caves non-broadband-enabled areas.

So, it arrived...

Image
This is the packaging for the Wavemaster. It's sexy don'tcha know.

Image
I believe this is what they call "Putting the pussy on a pedestal" ??[centre]

[centre]Image
And here she is again in her boxed glory.

Image
The packaging is pretty simple. It is packaged with expanded polystyrene.[centre]

[centre]Image
I begin to remove it from the box.
This was actually a pain because the handles on the side of the box were working against me but that is because I am ill and weak today.

Image
Yummy! Can't wait to get my greasy hands on it!

Image
This is what we have left in the box. It is empty as you can or cannot see.

Image
With the expanded polystyrene removed, we can see the groovy design.
But notice that thumbscrew at the bottom right? It fell out when I removed the polystyrene...

Image
The lone thumbscrew.

Image
Came from here! Coolermaster were testing my levels of intelligence today.
Back of the case, by the way

Image
The underside. It's nice.

Image
The feet have rubber grips to prevent it from sliding around and to reduce vibration.

Warning: Erotic pictures below

Image
Aluminium really is a beautiful material. You may want to set this as your desktop wallpaper.

Image
And here's another shot, this is side-on looking at the front-most part of the case.

Image
From above

Image
From the front. Sorry the flash obscures some detail.

Image
That's why I took this picture from a more traditional angle.

Image
Here we see the front bezel and the air intake holes just behind them.
This stops the intake fans from being unsightly.
There are 2 blue LED's behind the bezel that light up when the case gets power... assuming you connected the cables!

Image
The door won't be swinging around in transit because it is taped to the side of the case.

Image
The top panel is also taped... more on this later...

Image
The case from behind! Sorry I should have given the 18+ warning.

Image
The b-side of the case from another angle.
Notice that everything is attached with thumbscrews.
Want to remove the motherboard tray? Thumbscrews..
The side of the case? Thumbscrews..
The power supply? You guessed it!
Thumbs up to Coolermaster for making toolless entry so easy.

Image
There are 7 expansion slots indicating it can accomodate a motherboard with, guess what.. 7 expansion slots!

Image
The rear fan is Coolermaster branded. They are quiet.
Backplate is here also.

Image
You won't need a power supply as recent studys have proved that a simple cardboard box provides ample power for the latest quad-core, quad-graphics systems.
Actually, in this box you will find everthing you need - screws, screws, and other bits.

Image
The top panel again... when you press down on it...

Image
It pings up! Revealing some USB/Firewire ports and audio-in/out ports.

Image
To remove the side of the case, you will need to remove 3 thumbscrews from the side you want to remove.

Image
And let it slide back! This was difficult at first, but the second time was easier.
Aluminium has an annoying habit of binding under heat and vibration, but this is the price you pay for beauty.

Image
Just so you know, the side panels are not like a Lian-Li, which are extraordinarily thick. These side panels are thin. This reduces the weight a little.
I've used this case previously, and I can safely throw away rumours of this side panel being the cause of resonance/vibration sounds.

Image
Inside the case!
The cable you see hanging is from that top panel and connects to the various connectors on your motherboard (if you have one).

Image
There are 2 intake fans, and they will cool your hard drives.
Note that the cable for them is running in the same comparted area as the fan, so make sure to keep the cable away from the fans.

Image
Here we have a view of the bays. There are 4 external 5.25in bays, 2 external 3.5in bays and 4 internal 3.5in bays.

Image
The back of the case from the inside.

Image
Looking up at the cardboard power supply from the inside.

Image
The expansion slot covers are thumbscrew secured! Big thumbs up!

Fetish shot coming up...

Image
And of course, a new case has an amazing smell about it.

Image
Srsly u guys, mzing! ...

I'll write back with more pictures some time soon! I have run out of laptop battery!

Nice post, good pictures. Looks like a fairly good case, well built, definitely.

Anyway, monster post breaks forum!

I am back at work again! I have taken a few more photos of the case and the new power supply inside the case :)

I actually encountered a problem installing the power supply. It is a standard ATX size, so that's not a problem, but the anti-vibration bracket that comes with the power supply makes it impossible to use in the Wavemaster as the power supply mounting bracket is unable to come in to contact with the case. Instead, I have not used the anti-vibration bracket and just connected the power supply directly to the power supply mounting bracket.

This can be overcome by using those small rubber rings around the screws, instead of a large mount.

Pictures to come later when I find my camera cable.

Antivibration PSU mount? That sound a bit OTT, to me, the only moving parts of a PSU are the fans, Tagan would have been better to just put rubber washers on them

Yeah I agree. Remember the small picture review I did of the Antec anti-vibration fan stuff? Those things are really cheap :) Though I can't seem to find them anywhere now.

I can kinda remember, it was a rubber frame type thing, wasn't it? I think using a couple of rubber washers on each screw would work just as well.
