Right, I don't need to explain why (afterall, some people see fit to taunt me about it EVERY SINGLE BLOODY CONVO I HAVE WITH CERTAIN PEOPLE!) but I am in need of building a new PC.
Let me just put this down first: I KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT COMPUTERS SO IF YOU PUT ANYTHING DOWN, PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT IT DOES AND HOW IT WORKS ETC...
I need to build myself a new PC but have no idea which parts to get.
Items needed (which I know of):
Case (needs to be nice looking, black and good cooling design, and able to contain all of the items being bought with ease- ie I can simply slot them in without having to mod the case at all, size doesn't matter)
Motherboard (anything up to date.... I don't know.... 2 slots for graphics cards possible?)
RAM (lots of it- 4GB minimum)
HD (doesn't matter as much- 250GB probs ok)
Graphics card (4870x2 seems good)
Cooling (very important)
Power Supply (I'll leave you to decide on which one)
USB slots (essential, 6+ will do)
DVD drive (DVD writer drive will be fine)
I need the prices of the best of the above items and any other items you feel is relevant and needed. Price is not a problem- I am merely getting a target for what to work for when I get myself a job. Remember to explain yourself thoroughly when stating parts as, like I said, I know absolutely nothing. Also, posting links on the cheapest place to buy said parts would be helpful as well :)
Reason why I'm asking everyone: been trying to talk to Azcn but he doesn't seem to ever respond :/

Please only post if you have something useful to offer, I don't want pointless spam in this topic. Even if you intend it to be a joke, DON'T BOTHER! THIS IS A SERIOUS TOPIC, NOT A PLACE TO JOKE ABOUT!
Please post your knowledge asap.

Hawke

Raging at people you're asking for help is the way to go, obviously.

Anyway, case is up to you, just make sure it has dual 12cm fans for cooling, and make sure it supports ATX (not just mATX).

Mobo, I'm not up to date there, loads available. Asus and GigaBite are always sae options. Ignore any crossfire/SLi support, you won't use it.

CPU, C2D or C2Q are what you want.

RAM, 2GB or 4GB, any more is pointless.

Graphics, HD4 series, HD46xx min, 4870 max. No point with HD4870X2 unless you have a 30" monitor.

HDD, get a big one, they're aster and you won't struggle for space.

PSU, 500W plus. Good brand, ~£50 minimum spend. Corsair are good. Modular PSU is much better than non-modular.

DVD, get the cheapest, they're all the same.

Cooling, stock is ine, with a ull selection of fans. An aftermarket CPU cooler is good, though.

USB all come on mobo.

Do some research yoursel. Read tech sites, maybe get a magasine. I recommend Bit Tech.

Thanks for the input Skillers :)
I shall do some research on that site and a magazine I have got: CUSTOM PC is what it is called and looks quite good and info packed :)
Rage? Like my bro said... if all else fails... rage! XD
If anyone has anything else to add to the list Skillers has provided (e.g. "quickening stripes" as Skillers once mentioned although apparently he was being sarcastic then?) then please don't hesitate.

CustomPC is good, I'm a subscriber fr the past 4-5 years, lol.

Go faster stripes will definitely improve performance.

The spec I have is pretty good for the price, and im getting 100/200 fps on most steam games. All the stuff I bought is here:

http://www.techious.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2297&start=0

Obviously it seems you want to crank up the graphics and PSU a lot more than what I have. But really this is plenty for most games (Though, with RA3 on max, it lags sometimes with massive explosions like powerplants being destroyed).

DHR is right, his spec was very good, you really don't need to spend much at all. My comp was £800 and that was bordering on excessive.

And not only that, prices will have come down since they got their PC's, so you can get an equivalent or better PC for less. :P

The prices haven't changed much recently, and the weakening of the pound against the dollar has counteracted reducing prices. Overall, I think tech is about a similar price to 2 months ago.

Thanks for your input DHR.
I am just going to copy his specs people (yes I am a copy cat but hey, if he's done it and it runs TF2 fine for a really low price, might as well take advantage of his knowledge and his experience to get brillo TF2 :D)
I need to ask a favour: could someone post the links of the stuff he bought for me here so I can simply click on them, stuff them into a basket and order please? Much obliged :D
Now I just need to find myself £350... anybody here work in a bank that can helpfully let me in at night and allow me access to the vault after I "beat you up" and "tie you to a wall" whilst I get ze monies? ;)

That's actually a fairly good idea, though prices are a bit unstable atm, and have gone up.

With the prices flying around faster than a jumbo jet and everyone talking about something called a "credit crunch", I'm not really sure when to get the parts,
Just before Xmas (bah humbug) is my plan as I can build it as an Xmas pressie and then come back to dominate TCHS after Xmas on TF2. Price doesn't really matter as long as it doesn't jump over £500.
I'm going to produce a list of the parts I'm buying so people see it and point out problems such as not enough cooling/power etc.
Skillers, please note I am getting a motherboard capable of crossfire etc and capable of having dual graphics cards as sometime in the future I will be adding parts to it and will be getting a massive screen for it :D or I can get an adaptor and get a 50" hd lcd tv and use it through that >:D I will need you to check if the case is big enough to house such a motherboard etc without probs and that all the parts will have enough cooling and power as I am no expert in such areas.

20" TFT has the same resolution as any full HD TV.

You will never use crossfire, don't fret about it. However, most the good Intel boards support Xire atm. You will not ge a board that supports SLI aswell.
