Sorry for the late announcement, but ATI unveiled the Radeon 4670 earlier today.

This is the mid-range part from ATI, and it is meant to content against the Geforce 9500 which it thrashes soundly.

The reference part will be 512MiB of 1GHz GDDR3 (2GHz effective) and a 750MHz GPU with 320 SPU's.

There will be many passively cooled versions, in fact, TUL PowerColor alone have released 3 passively cooled versions of this card already! The card also feeds all of its power requirements through the PCI-Express slot on the motherboard and does not require a PCI-Express power connector.

And the most important thing is the price. It retails for under £60.

The 4670 is perfect for slotting in to a media PC as it will play all 1080p H.264 content without even breaking a sweat or maybe an increase in fan speed, if you have one. The card is HDCP compliant and should do sound over HDMI. It will also play a lot of recent games at a decent frame rate, as long as you don't go trying 2560x1600 with this thing... that just won't work. But yes, 1280x1024 TF2 and COD4 should be a breeze.
