1. Teamspeak is a program that allows you to use voice chat in game with people in the same voice channel as you. It is similar to chatting in game but is preferred especially when you have alltalk on in matches. It also has the benefit form being voice activated so that it broadcasts when you speak so you don't need to hit a button if you want.

2. You can get Teamspeak from http://www.goteamspeak.com/?page=downloads

3. You use it by installing it, and then connecting to a teamspeak server, joining a channel and talk.

Clicky

1) It's a chat client, a bit like IRC, except with voice. It's useful for being organised in competitions and can be quite fun just to chat on.

2) See link above ^^

3)
  • Download, Install and open TS
  • Connection -> Connect
  • Right click Servers -> Add server
  • Create a label that you will recognise the server by and press enter
  • Enter the correct server address, including port.
  • Choose a nickname.
  • Select anonymous and enter the server password.
  • Press connect.
If you want the server to remember you (useful for servers with lots of permissions);
  • Press self -> register with server. You may need to wait for an admin to give you rights to do this.
  • Chose a username and password.
  • Go back to the server list and change to a registered user and enter the appropriate details.
To change voice settings, go to Settings -> sound input/output settings, and chose Push to talk or voice activate etc.
When talking, you will only be heard by people in the same channel as you. To change channel, right click the channel you want to switch to and press switch to channel.
You can send text messages to individual people by right clicking their name, and selecting send text message.
That's pretty much everything you could need to know, I would think. If it's not working properly you may need to mess around with settings -> options.

If you want access to our TS server, ask Wynney for the details (seeing as he owns it). I'm currently not sure what his position on wide usage is (currently only the DBK members know the details), but he's usually quite open allowing other people to use our CSS server, and I'm sure it will be the same with TS.

A problem I can see at the moment is that if not everybody uses Team Speak and people prefer to use the in-game VOIP, there's a break-down in communication.

I've seen an article about this on the Internet before.

Either everybody uses the same thing, or don't use anything at all was the conclusion.

Yeah, I tend to use VOIP ingame, as everyone can hear that, though TS can be fun out of game, and useful when playing as a coordinated team, or when alltalk is on and you want tactics.

ok ppl often cant see reasons for teamspeak, but here are my reasons:

1) teamspeak can be used not in game, u can chat with each other and stay in touch generally whilst doing work, watching youtube vid. etc. whilst talking with each other

2) team talk even being on in server is not beneficial. if say, one man is left alive on ur team, he can ask his team for some info on teamspeak such as where person last seen, which sites appeared more clear etc. something you couldnt do on team talk.

3) discussing tactics on team talk may be harmful, especially if ppl are watching on source tv and can therefore hear you. this means the other team (possibly using ts) may be informed well before you know it.

4) teamtalk doesnt require a button to use.

5) all talk may be on.

6) better communication in general.

Isnt the second comment Ghosting? O.o Isnt that illegal on the majority of servers anyway?

Not necessarily, say you were in combat, and wanted to say something just before you died, but didn't get time, like "bombs at B", you could do that with TS, but not normal ingame chat. If you went round speccing the other team, that's ghosting. I think war servers make it so you can only see your team when dead, anyway.

you can only see your own team, repeating previous things isnt ghosting, its just giving ur teamate to hear what u sed earlier again to adjust his/her game accordingly. for instance, u report 2 were at b, well in the meantime one could easilly be at a now etc. its not ghosting because u dont know exactly where ppl are. however, it works as a tactical game, the teamate knows to be cautious of say, on d2, 2 in b, one likely to be the left, one to the right, or one wheeling round to double doors to come in behind.

ghosting is giving specific locations of where the opponent is at that time, for instance, he is camping behind mid double doors. u go in and kill him knowing EXACTLY where he is. u can never be certain with ts where people are but you have a vague chance of knowing where they are dependant on where ur team reports they saw the opponent last.

wow long post xD

Yeah, they're both pretty similar, but most people we know use TS2, lol.

Hey, I do have teamspseak, on my own PC and on my dads, but since I upgraded my PC to vista, it will no longer work, and uninstalling and re-downloading doesn't fix the problem, anyone got any ideas of how I can fix the error? (I'll post a screen shot of what actually happens when I go back to my mums)
Basically though what happens is that it'll load up,a and then a dialog box appears saying no file available for sound output or something and I basically cant talk or hear others., I believe it's due to my drivers, but they seem to be as updated as I can get them.

ive looked into it and the error message ur getting is when sound is not enabled (it is if you can hear anything on anything else) and the other being ur mic is not plugged in. make sure ur mic is plugged into the red slot (lol) at the BACK of the computer. ur computer should then say an audio device has been added to the comp and u should be able to use teamspeak.

make sure recording stuff is also set up as described above.

hope this helps =]

Hey thanks a lot, I could probably ty that if I had my mic again (grrr at my bro) however, my mic has worked fine with everything else (at TS when on XP) while it came through tthe front.

Anyways here's the actual error message, and I got it kinda wrong
Image

The strange thing is, my drivers are compeltely up to date, I double checked last night!
EDIT: After some help from Wynney over Steam, I finally mamnaged to get it work, tyhanks for the help dude!
