Hi guys.

I was wondering if any of you have seen the new case released by Hiper?

Normally, and as you know Skillers, I'm not one for cases with windows; but this one is different because it can be either a plastic window, a metal mesh, or both. Obviously, I'll be going for the metal mesh if I get it for my next system.

The new case is called the Hiper Anubis. It is constructed completely from aluminium, but the build quality is greater than even a Lian-Li case. Lian-Li cases typically have 2mm thick aluminium, but this case uses 3mm thick aluminium all over the exterior. Hiper state that this case can take a weight of up to 100kg (a weight the Americans call a tonne for some reason).

On the top of the case, the aluminium extends 1 inch like a giant heatsink. There is also a top mounted 120mm fan that comes included with the case. This fan is very quiet.

On the bottom of the case, there are very large rubber feet that are going to be absolutely brilliant for noise dampening and vibration reduction. I can't imagine this case will be moving very far when it is finally planted - it weighs over 10kg after all!

On the sides of the case are the thick aluminium panels. The one side has a metal mesh and a plastic screen. You can use them both, or on their own, depending on your preference really. Obviously I'm going for the mesh - I hate plastic windows. The side panels are very quick release, operating on levers - there are 2 small levers that need to be pulled down at the same time, and the panel can then be removed.

The font of the case is very clean looking. There is a lot of ventilation. It almost looks like a HP server, or the front of the HP BlackBird, with long vertical strips for ventilation. These are diamond cut so they look very clean. These vents make up part of the front door. Behind this door you can find a lot of 5.25in drive bays and also space for a 12mm fan in front of a hard drive mount (which can hold 4 hard drives).

The hard drive mounts are removeable and come with rubber grips to prevent vibration.

The case has a traditional layout, so the power supply is at the top and the motherboard tray is not inverted as in many cases these days - inverted motherboard trays are not so great on passively cooled motherboards (like many of the Asus X38 and X48 motherboards) because the heat rises to the southbridge chip causing instability and system lock-up's.

There is a top-mounted fan as standard - but there is no front intake or exhaust fan included! You will need to purchase these yourself. At least, I guess, it is a good excuse for me to finally buy some decent fans instead of ones that just come with the system. You have the option to use an 80mm, 92mm or 120mm fan on the rear fan guard and mount.

I have attached some pictures of the case.

Nice case, though the heatsink stuff looks kinda gimmiky, and will make it damn hard to mod.

I do like the mesh side panel, I've been considering doing it for my next comp instead of a window. Still gives a look inside, but also adds ventilation and better looks.

Also, nice to see WC holes on it.

Would you really want to mod the top of that case? I mean, it already has a fan!

Another nice low profile case is the Silverstone TJ08... if only they made an equivalent for full sized ATX motherboards instead of just mini-ATX.

A modder would. The top of a case is prime real estate.

Yeah, Silverstone cases are nice, but I need a smaller case than just a standard mini-tower, but I have a nice one in mind...

That first one is a bit of a colossus, the second is pretty standard.

Looks like Hiper are already looking at replacing the Anubis...

Shame. I liked the vented front.

I would guess it's just another version for people who don't like the front door, rather than a replacement. Lian-Li do it with a lot of there cases, it's an easy way to add more appeal to a single base design.

I'm finding it very difficult to find a case that I really want for my next computer. I know the spec of my next computer, right down to the timings I feel are best on the memory, but if I don't have a case to put it in then there will be no point in getting it at all... I like the look of the Lian-Li PC-8 that's just been released, but I dislike the rounded edges on the front.

If Silverstone could take that TJ08 and make it full size, and make the body aluminium instead of some crappy steel, then I am sold. And if you lot know of a case that meets that spec then please let me know! Currently, it looks like the next best thing is the PC-7 and the PC-8 from Lian-Li.

The first one is a remake of my last case, the V1000, but with better cooling it seems. There's a fan angled down on to the memory and CPU socket and a fan blowing out the back - instead of a fan sucking in at the back and blowing out of the side... The wheels gave the case too much vibration and this one will probably be the same - though they have put rubber inbetween pretty much every screw in this model.

The second one is a remake of their PC-7 - their best selling case... probably because it's also their cheapest case? Let's hope this one is also cheap.

For a new case, I hear lots of good things about the colossus that is the TJ07. And all other SS cases for that matter. I would check out all their products to see if they do something you like.

I've already checked out all of their products and none of them fit the bill. I think the TJ07 is a nasty piece of work and far too expensive. It's also far too big.

So you want something full size, not so big and angular?

Yes, something that fits standard ATX motherboards. I like box-like cases, very defined edges, and hopefully just 6 faces instead of about 20 like some cases these days...

So a pretty bog standard but a high quality case? What about the Antec P180s?
