It's actually really good. I prefer the Debian package management system over the Red Hat package management system because it is just so much faster.

I will be checking out Fedora 9 also, but Ubuntu 8.04 is a real winner so far.

Sure, it is a bit Windows-ish out of the box, but after some tweaking it can be stripped down to the essentials, and it's very resource friendly. There's a lot of gui-fication but hey, it's actually not a bad thing as there is less room for error. Hardware support is excellent and it supports the Intel Wireless 2100 802.11b chip in this Dell Latitude D505.

Of course, I used the alternative text-based installer, the graphical installer is simply the worst.

Update Manager had an update over the weekend it seems...

It's now categorised, similar to PackageKit in Fedora ;) but Update Manager is very fast unlike PackageKit.

One of the better Linux distros, I believe.

Yes, without a doubt.

Fedora 9 is awful in comparison.

I personally used Fedora in the past, but the Fedora distribution has lost direction recently - it has an awful installer and the base configuration requires a whopping 3 CD's... and seems to provide nothing more than Ubuntu's 1 CD installation - which is quicker by the way!
