When clicking steam the vista loading icon spins round for about 10-20 seconds then stops. So i click it again to load steam. Still nothing, when i check taskbar and applications there is nothing there but when i check processes there are now three 'steam*32''s running one always using up a full core ruinning at 25 of my CPU.

To fill in additional information it was running fine up until about 4-5 o clock today. Before that time i had a new sound card from asus and installed the included sound drivers. After some fiddling to get the sound working i played on steam and some games for a while. Everything ran and sounded fine. I then at a later point decided to remove the now outclassed realtek drivers. After that and a few restarts later i realised the steam problem.

I have re-installed drivers, i have alternated having both on and off or one of either. Steam will not run anymore. I have changed clientregistry.blob but it will nto load into steam to re-download the file. I took the time to back up my steamapps folder elsewhere and then deleted steam to re-install. I will also add that upon repair, if i chose run from the steam site the error 1334 appears stating that 'support.url' is missing from the 'cabs.w1.cab' cabinet file. If i save and then run with or without admin rights the error is different and says that steamsetup[1].msi is likely corrupted despte the number of re-downloads i have done. I have since done a system restore to the 4/10 long before this problem happened. Steam appeared on the taskbar on first boot-up and fully downloaded something, then said it was missing needed files (from the deletion i assume) and had to close. It gave me the option to log-in but then reverted back to being inaccessible.

I hope this is as detailed as possible to give you a clear idea of what has happened so you may better help me solve the problem at hand.

thank you for tyhe suggestion si, steam fully installed this time and didn;t crash out. However the same problem still exsists and it wouldn't work.

Possible conflicting of sound drivers has bugged out your system.

titan quest problem is different form this but its a vista problem i found out, i justhavent found a solution yet lol. i can;t continue till i sort out steam ryan.

Thanks for continued support guys, as for aaron as stated i tried the sound drivers installed alternatily, both at same time, and neither, steam refuses to run regardless.

Met i have checked that list before hand i do believe although browsing wiki now. Any program i have on that list never conflicted before hand.

Problem started after i uninstalled realtek drivers. Re-installing did not fix. System restore did not fix.

that vista problem was aimed specifically at ryan for the game 'titan quest' BEFORE steam as a whole when on me

I have not seen any program update itself and it was straight after the realtek driverr uninstall/re-boot it started
