Just a few little changes to the functionality of our SourceTV downloading system;

1) The downloads page will only be updated once a day at 5am from now on. This will prevent the server being overloaded by the copying function during peak times, which has happened previously. This means that the server shouldn't experience random long bouts of lag when anyone is on.

2) The replays are now going to be compressed into individual .bzip archives. This reduces the filesize to about 25-30% of the original size. This has two advantages, the first is for us, as it means we save a lot of space on the server (we have accumulated 30GB+ of demos in 2 months of operation, which would give us, at most, 9 months before the server fills up, with this compression the total filesize of all the demos so far will be about 8GB, which means we can happily run for over 2 years). This also has the bonus of much quicker downloads for you as a user (bandwidth is currently a non-issue for us).

To open a .bzip archive you will need a compression tool such as 7-zip (free) or WinRAR (free trial version).

Yes. THough we haven't actually done the bzip thing yet. Si is still working on the script to make it run better.
