This game is a flight simulator for the Wii, focussing on modern air combat. and it is AWESOME.

I got it on Friday and have nearly completed the campaign (after 10 to 15 hours of play), but am stuck on the penultimate mission (because I can't destroy about 20 planes before they KO a weakly armoured target) so I'm going through the previous missions trying to unlock all the better planes.

Anyway, the game works on the simple system of following a campaign of about 20 missions, each taking a good length of time with many objectives throughout. Each missions starts with a breifing followed by a plan select screen, where you can select planes from a wide array of modern fighter jets ranging from Falcons to Raptors and the Blackbird, each with their own handling characteristic, and then choosing a preset weapon set for that aircraft, which is individual for each aircraft. Weapons range from bombs to heavy long range missiles, with atleast 2 pet set equipped. The weapons all feel useful, each with different purposes, ranges and strengths. You do not need to worry about ammo, as it is infinite, instead the weapons take time to reload, allowing you so many per salvo (usually 2 or 4, 1 for bigger bombs). Every plane has a cannon.

The gameplay is adrenaline fuelled fast paced action, often seeing you single handedly taking down fortresses or defeating swarms of enemy aircraft. The controls are easy and responsive (Wii), though sometimes buggy (move the cursor off the top and control gets weird, and the missile avoiding doesn't work properly). Missile lock is simple to understand and firing missiles is done realistically (some fire and forget, some active homing). The guns have a small amount of autoaim to allow you to hit with them. Unguided bombs work well, with a trajectory and hit indicator, making bombing runs easy, but guided bombs are hard to understand (doesn't help you with release position).

The graphics are good, with the aircraft al having good high models and textures. The sky and clouds also look brilliant. The missiles leave smoke trails and cause impressive explosions, which is monopolised on by the "ImpactCam", showing you the explosion close up in slow mo. Flying fast causes a nice blur effect and the plane moves forward on the screen, emphasising speed. Getting hit too much will make your plane leave a nice smoke and fire trail, which has the added (annoying) side effect of making bombing hard. The ground, sea and ships aren't as good, but they are still respectable, and were probably reduced as you don't get that close. Sound is also good.

Only thing this game lacks is multiplayer, which would make it perfect, though the single player is plenty. Also lacs rudder control, but it's not really needed. There are a few bugs here and there, but overall, it is excellent.

I recommend this game to any Wii owner, buy it now!

It's a Wii game, and my Wii isn't set up for screenies. However, Google is your friend...
