Real Time Strategy, what a great genre of game everyone has a game they love from this genre so I thought I'd open up a discussion about which RTSes/RTSs are truly great.
Let's see what great RTSes/RTSs do I have on here. The Total War series I love these games they are great because you can change how the battles are played. Arcade mode lets ou play the battle with all out action. Reality mode is accurate in battles using the rock(infantry), paper(archers), and scissors(calvalry) idea.
Battle for Middle Earth, this game follows a Rise of Nations style of game play, but with units from The Lord of the Rings.

Total War, of course.
Dune/Command and Conquer (the entire series rocks, Dune 2 was teh first ever strategy game, and it was made by Westwood, who made C&C).
Settlers and Populous were (and still are) great games, which took a less serious approach to RTS.
I suppose B&W was sort of RTS, and B&W2 has made this much more so (wit a combat system similar to Total War, but not on the same level).

Those graphics aren't anything special. The scale and combat system, however, is a different matter.
[Off topic]Crysis, however, shows the true meaning of uber-graphics[/Off topic]

What do you mean graphics being nothing special look at the image of the french knights closely, there are reflections on the helmets. I mean god why would you say there's nothing special in the graphics, I'm going to get into contact with a few of my "associates" to have a "frank discussion" with you Grim

Oooh, reflection! I've seen that a lot. The actual textures are blurred and the "reflections" may be just another texture. Great considering the scale, but in modern uber-graphics terms they are nothing special, mainly cos it would crash any computer that tried to run such uber graphics (see Crysis) on such a scale.

LOL, not everyone, we're just saying they're definitely not *that* good. They are excellent for the genre and scale.

acctually The Creative Assembly are using the "Massive" engine as seen in the lord of the rings rather than their own "Epic" engine

Yeah, but the graphics are only slightly dependent on the game engine, it mostly depends on their moddling and texturing skills, though some of the fancy effects (water/reflections) require a the engine to power it.
