SO PSYCHED ABOUT THIS GAME!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D

updates now continue till the 14th April :) so hopefully by the time we all go back to school after easter hols we should have the update :D

Do you think in the next SSB that Sonic and Snake will be in them or do you think theyll be trashed for new 3rd part characters? cus this is now the obvs way forward and theyll add more. Or do you think that sega will get ideas (saves us all) and create a sonic battle 3-D (original was GBA title).

In response to Ash, there are currently no plans at all for another Smash Bros game... Brawl is supposed to be the last. No other company could pull of a Smash bros like game. They don't have enough well known and prolific game icons to show off!

Anyway, seeing as the forum was buggering up on Monday, and yesterday's update was tiny, I'll do a massive one for today :D

First off, Monday saw the final character release...

Image

Wolf has appeared into Brawl. The third of the Star Fox characters. From Star Wolf, Wolf is Fox's arch nemisis, but the two have a great respect for each other. Having fought each other many times during the Lylat and Assault games.

He seems to be much heavier than Fox and Falco, so packs more of a punch, but at a loss of speed (the main reason Fox and Falco are used so much). He'll probably be a match for Link in terms or weight and speed, so middle'ish in both. His moves are almost exactly the same as Fox's too. Clones arent all that popular (Falco was the only really good one in Melee) so Wolf will have to be good to have anyone play as him! His Final Smash is also the Landmaster Tank, however it lasts a very much shorter time than Fox and Falco's, but it has a lot more a wollop behind it.

Yesterday was the introduction of Toon Link's stage aboard the Pirate Ship. Looks like an interesting place to brawl on to me!

Image

The ship ends up a huge storm. You get hurled up into a twister, and then you crash back down and start the whole thing again! Watch out for the catapult and whatch towers that randomly bombard the ship! Also, every so often the King of The Red Lions appears as an extra platform.

Now the big one. Today's update was the launch of All Star mode. Now, All Star was in Melee, but I was one of the few who really enjoyed it :) Back then, you had to fight every character once (Much like you do now) but they were in a random order. It always ended with a match agasint 25 Mr Game And Watchs. Everyone knows the drill, you get 3 hearts to beat as many of them as possible. Pretty similar to Boss Mode some of you might remember.

In Brawl, however, All Star is in a set order. The order of which the games came out in Japan. So, instead of being last, Mr G&W starts off the series...

Image

Each character appears in their own stage except for ROB, who has no stage...

G&W = Release: 04/1980 (Yes, that's 28 years old as of this month!)

The next match is against the Mario Brothers...

Image

Yet, Peach and Bowser make cameos in this stage too! July 1981 was the release of this game in Japan...

The comes DK and DK :?

Image

Donkey Kong is much older than Diddy, but both make an appearance in this stage, be on your toes! Also July 1981 for this!

Image

Then we travel to the Icicle Mountain to fight that double team of the Ice Climbers! Remember, they are on home turf, so watch for the ice! (Jan 1985)

Image

Next up is ROB. He appears on the retro Mario stage, as he does tno have one. His release in 1985 with the NES games Gyromite and Stacker was a flop in Japan, but hes been hurled to cult status with cameo appearances!

Battle 6 is the Hero of Time...

Image

Link, Toon Link, Ganondorf and Zelda or Sheik (Note: One or the other) will appear here, so its Vs 4 again. This could be an early stumbling block if you get caught between Ganondorf and Link.... (Feb 1986)

Image

Samus Aran makes her appearance in Battle 7... She can also appear in ZSS form, but not as both! Her appearance in October 1986 made her one of the first major heroines in any game!

Image

Pit appears next. Kid Icarus was one of the last series to come out on the Famicom in Japan (Or NES for US and Europe)... This was in late 1986 too...

Battle 9... You face the most armed person in Brawl...

Image

Snake appeared first on a Sega console in Japan, in July 1987 (believe it or not). Recently hes more famous for his PlayStation appearances. We're only half way now!

Ness and Lucas team up for Battle 10

Image

On New Pork City, this match could be another stumbling block for some people. Ness appeared first, in 1989 in Mother 1. Lucas didn't appear for quite a few years after...

Image

Marth and Ike meet up for the Fire Emblem match. This makes Marth 18 this month too! Much the same as me ;)

Image

Yoshi wasn't thought of until 9 years after Mario and Luigi were! 1990 makes Yoshi 18 later this year! This one shouldnt be too much trouble...

Battle 13 is unlucky for some...

Image

I wouldn't want to go agasint Falcon with high damage! His Falcon Punch could end a good run right here, right now...

Image

Battle 14 marks 3/4 of the way to the end! Sonic is going to be a tough opponent, hard to hit with some characters maybe? (1991)

15 is going to be tough too...

Image

Kirby, Metaknight and King Dedede all at once? You're going to have to keep your eyes on the prize to beat these 3 recovery kings... April 1992 for these guys, making them 16 this month...

The difficulty ramps up a lot imo in the last few matchs...

Image

The Star Fox/Wolf team. This is going to be a difficult one. Fox and Falco are both very fast, and Wolf has the power to knock you off. Preserving damage is going to be the key here I think... 1993 heralded the original Star Fox game.

Image

Wario appeared in games a long time before 1994, but Wario Ware Inc was the first game he was the lead character.

Battle 18 is the penultimate one... But possibly the most difficult!

Image

Its hard to believe Pokemon is 12 years old... But here it is. And what a match! Fighting all 6 pokemon (Ivysaur, Charizard, Squirtle, Pikachu, Jigglypuff and Lucario) this match is going to be win or bust... For the final match, and newest character in Brawl is...

Image

Captain Olimar... Who is 7 years old...

Sakurai on Website wrote:
When they’re all lined up like this, it becomes obvious that there is roughly 6-year blank before and after Pikmin. While there have been big series since then like "Animal Crossing," "Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day," and "Wii Sports" it does seem that coming up with a completely new character-driven series has gotten more difficult recently.

Indeed it has... Although people from the same series could have been used (Where's my ledgendaries, Roy, and other people from the plethora of games that appear here), Character development in recent years has become fairly stunted... mainly because almost every character type has been filled!

All Star looks fantastic... Seriously can not wait for Brawl now!

Its not on the website, therefore not official... Even tho ONM is part of Nintendo, Until there is an update on the SSBB website, I'm not taking anything for gospel

Yeah, Ninty are the publishers, so what they say goes.

Also, ZP reviews SSBB. Only just found it, haven't watched it yet.

ONM wrote:
There's not long to go until Smash Bros. is finally released in Europe. It will be here on 27 June but considering it's been available in the US since March, many have asked why there has been a hold up.

Well, during an interview with Nintendo's Laurent Fischer, we asked him the big question. Was localisation the reason why Smash Bros. has been delayed?

Fischer responded: "Well, yeah, that's always been the big question: why do we have a delay for Smash Bros? You need to see it title by title. It's the same team, the same pool of teams, that have been localising and that have been proofing. But localisation is only one thing: production is another thing also, because at the moment we are not just producing Smash Bros for Europe, we're producing hundreds of first party games and third party games for locations all over the world.

Advertisement:
"So localisation issues are one part of the delay, but you also have production issues, logistic issues... so a release date is always the result of a large number of factors, and it's a complex decision process. It's not that we deliberately like to be late in Europe, and it's our job to take care of it, but to localise in six languages is always a challenge.

We also asked him if the sheer amount of text in Smash Bros. Brawl had anything to do with the delay:-

"It's not just text," said Fischer. "This is a large game with lots of characters, and you must also remember that the voices of certain characters are different.

"That means we have to record six different sets of voices for some characters. We kept voices in there that the game doesn't let you see, like the Japanese voices and such, but there are a lot of voices that are localised so we have to record the voices for certain characters in the game six times.

"And then it's not only recording, you then have to make the sound work. Every time you go through localisation you then have to put it through a test, which involves making sure that you recorded the proper voice, and that the proper voice is being activated with the proper trigger, at the proper time... so it's not just a case of swapping over some words, it requires some proper extra development processes. And so it takes time.

"I realise that from time to time we have still been disappointing some people, but in general we have also been able to bring to them games which would have never been available before in a European market, and the time frame is slowly decreasing, so I'm positive for the future. We know that we are still not reaching the expectations of all the people, but we're really doing our best to resolve this."

So Nintendo has spoken. What do you think?

Got my ONM mag today :D it included a massive 8 page spread on SSBB and giving it a final score of 95% which tbh i think is a bit low seeing as this game is going to rock more than Zelda ever did!!!!
Monthly gift was a HUGE poster one side showing complete character roster and the other a pic of mario, link and zss and pit all fighting on eldin bridge, which is pure awesomeness (and yes it is big picture but its not pixallated due to it being resized and graphical quality looks astounding )
