Based on the rather old games of the same name, you and your team investigate potential alien incursions in a Utopian 1950s style America.

It looks like the game has a fair way to go yet, but I think it has potential.

Watch this video on Youtube.

I love UFO Defence, and I want to try apoc but I can't get into it.
Enforcer was a wierd one, totally not what I expected etc.

The graphics for this look too, sim-like fpr ,y likings as an FPS...

I would love to see a portal gun though!

1:57, was that a stargate?!?

Isn't it completely different to the old X-Com games, as in they were turn based strategy? Seems like licence whoring to me, though we will see.

Nah, X-Com Enforcer was an FPS, it was playable for an hour or two, very repetitive but it made you work for your new guns :D

Perhaps, but the rest are TBS, and bringing the series back just to do something that isn't what the series is about seems odd.

The series was about investigating potential alien incursions and researching them and ways to defeat them. It might be a different genre, but from what I can tell the nature and premise of the game remain the same.

The graphics will hopefully improve by 2011.

Eh, I just think we have enough FPSes, would have been nice to some some unusual genres.

Well you see your kinda wrong there, it wasnt a fps, maybe look up the definition of a "FPS" before you make untrue statements. Just from me playing, i dont know, pretty much all the X-COM games i can safely say they have not made a FPS version yet, and hey a little browsing of the web proves that. So i suggest you go and look up the different types of Genres before dropping games into the wrong catagory and giving out false information to others.

The original X-COM: ENEMY UNKNOWN was the best anyway, hands down, no other game has come close to it, i even bought it on steam so i could play it now and then.

Based on your knowledge of the old series, how do you feel about the new game? Clearly you have more experience with the original games than most of us around here. :P

Well to be honest from watching the video it looks more like X-Files meets rednecks. To me it has completely missed the X-Com story and experience. Judging from the video its set in like 1950/60's which is a bit before Enemy Unknown. The FBI agent isnt even in a suit! how can you be taken seriously if your not in a suit?

Anyway yeh they have missed the X-Com feel completely, it would have been so much better if it was around the time of Enemy Unknown and you were one of the Soldiers sent in to investigate a UFO and engage aliens. Maybe adding a mission mode as a sideline which allowed you to investigate and eliminate aliens in spaceships or in towns, this opening up an area for funding dependent on how well you do in the missions, which can then be put into use for Researching on new weapons and armor (think Mass Effect 2)then this basicly making you more equipped for the main story. With this type, it would have been even a bit more of a feel of the x-com series as it gives some of the best parts of the game.

But i do have to admit, i do love the inky oil alien when it attacks someones face, im hoping you see it go down their gobs and take them over :)

I liked the fact that the aliens 'seemed' to actually be quite alien for once in a game. It looks like it has the potential to be a good game to me.

Yeh, but it still looks like they took a page out of the X-Files, hopefully they have other more alien type creatures than oil/ink interfering with your face.

I doubt that they will reveal everything (like all the aliens you will see) in a single trailer. Or at least, I sincerely hope they haven't.
