Hey,

Firstly, hello (again). I hope you're enjoying this, I hope it isn't TLDR but I'm sure someone will make a TLDR version of this. <Insert link to TLDR version here>
Since Skillers stepped down two months ago, I've been looking at how to improve Techious around here so we can have more fun. Now some time has passed (2 months unsuprisingly) and I want to tell you the changes I'm making around here that hopefully you will like. I'll split it into sections, but I hope you get the general gist.

SERVERS

As you know, we sadly had to get rid of the main server, but we hope that our smaller setup will help us play more games together. If we only have a server or two (instead of a thousand empty ones), I hope we get a nice community feeling around games. Currently we have TF2, but if people want something else, and enough agree we'll switch to <insert game here>. Even though we have only one server, I hope some people will still contribute to Techious, funding helps us keep what we have alive, and through a new air of keeping everything public, if wanted, I will place down exactly what is spent where and when and why. It's our community and our communitys money and if you want it spent differently, then we spend it differently.

NEW RULES

We had rules once, and we need a few rules to keep things fair. Then again I don't like the word "rules", how about "guidelines"? Right, so heres a few guidelines to help the community flow nicely, and I'll just quote the person who mainly wrote them:

Lord Metritutus wrote:
THE RULES

The rules are simple. Mostly just use common sense in your conduct with us.

  • Hacking/cheating on our servers is an instant permaban. eg wallhacks, aimbots, etc

  • Do NOT bring your personal conflicts to our servers or community. No one wants to hear your arguments with someone else.

  • If you feel you are raging, keep quiet, or if you feel unable to do so, leave. Uncontrolled rage will not be tolerated.

  • Do not flame/insult/troll people, post anything offensive, warez, porn, etc

  • Server exploits will generally be considered as rule breaking unless most of the people on the server are finding it fun. The same goes for 'admin abuse' - if 'admin abuse' is annoying or upsetting another player it is in violation of the rules. Report that admin to another member of our staff providing as many details as possible.

Unless otherwise stated, violation of any of these rules will result in a warning. Continued rule breaking will result in a 6 hour ban. Further rule breaking after this will result in a permanent ban. Bans are global across Mumble, the game servers and the forum (with the exclusion of the appeals section).

The 'record' of these violations for each individual is reset every week, so you won't get caught out if you break a rule two months after you got your 6 hour ban (you'll just get a warning).

If you do receive a permanent ban, you have ONE AND ONLY ONE appeal against it (post in the appeals section).

All users including Staff are not exempt from nor above the rules.

Any issues with the rules, just let us know with the feedback system (below)

NEW STAFF

To help with the new rules, we have a change of staff members to help keep things nice around here. I would like to welcome McWill and Kyhas to the moderation team. I have invited them to join us as staff as they seem be popular amongst members and will provide us all with a good time. Also so people know, Staff found breaking rules and basically using admin or their place to troll will find themselves as not staff, if you think this is happening leave feedback (below)

NEW "JOIN COMMUNITY" RULES

As you all know, previously to join Techious we've required you to sign up on the forums and spam for two weeks and then Skillers would say yay or nay. Now we are using a new system where all you have to be to join the clan is to be active generally in Techious stuff and be popular amongst the community. The Applications forum will be updated appropriately soon to reflect this.

NEW COMMUNITY FRIDAYS/SATURDAYS

Community Fridays are back, though most likely as Saturdays and in a way that peoples views actually matter. Instead of giving you a list of games and to pick, we'll ask you, what do YOU want. The game with the most support will win!

FEEDBACK

Finally, we have anonymous feedback system. Visit http://www.techious.com/feedback.php and leave feedback! We do not log your username so you can be assured that it is as anonymous as we could make it.

Sorry for the long post, but hopefully you'll enjoy it.

Thanks,

Si (and new staff)

Yes it does. I've even asked Ky/Si to kick me off mumble etc if I get too annoyed at something happening in game :)

Does leaving a server or channel as soon as I show up count as being insulting?

Also, where are these community friday/saturdays?

Post subject:  Re: A Bunch of Changes... (and a bunch of text)

I don't see that as insulting if the thing that would happen otherwise is more rage, which you know is likely.

Also, Community Fridays/Saturdays, the first announcement will be on Friday for playing on Sunday Jan 2nd (not a Fri/Sat but more likely to work in this case)
Nice to see someone remembered these :)

Haters gonna hate I guess. Not my fault if someone can't stand the way someone talks or plays. Mentioning no names at all.

2nd January? Hmmm, I guess I can wait that long. Better be something epic :P

When would you rather have something else, Bank Holiday Monday?

If someone is really leaving channels they are an absolute disgrace to the community.

Not if it stops a large amount of rage/annoyance/general unhappiness. I personally think there is nothing wrong with it... Some people might just not like each other, or maybe it's just to stop themselves from acting like a tard. And if either of those is the case, I don't see an issue.... Of course, mentioning no names...

I'm also mentioning no names.

I don't like plenty of people and I've never moved channel simply because someone has joined it. I have no idea who is carrying out such behaviour. But I would suggest they grow the <LOOK MA, I AM SWEARING> up.

Post subject:  Re: A Bunch of Changes... (and a bunch of text)

I wish we could all get on amicably. If someone has an issue with someone else, I wish they'd sort it out privately without it spilling out elsewhere in whatever form, although it could be worse than people leaving I suppose, but even that really shouldn't happen. For example if someone had a problem with me for some reason or other I'd be perfectly willing to discuss things over Steam etc to try and sort things out.

If only everything was that simple eh?

A shame it needs to be referred to really. :(

Post subject:  Re: A Bunch of Changes... (and a bunch of text)

Uni makes most people maturer :}. Well at least I know for a fact that I'm more accepting people now than I ever was in 6th form. I know people from 6th form who are still sad (or immature maybe should be the word) enough to still hate me. I don't care. They mean nothing to me.

People are how they are, deal with it. We're not 14 anymore, having private convos on skype which we won't invite everyone to, or even moving channels / leaving simply because someone joins.

Grow up ffs, I'm so tired of hearing about all this crap every time I come on these forums (but ofc the mentioning no names thing comes into it again). It's no wonder a lot of people can't be <LOOK MA, I AM SWEARING> with techious anymore.

Post subject:  Re: A Bunch of Changes... (and a bunch of text)

I know im not part of techious anymore but, staff/admins shouldn't have to be kicked, they should be doing the kicking with good reason. So how many staff members is that now? about 2:1 for staff to member? Still don't get why some of the staff members are STILL staff members.
How active are these members btw? shouldnt you be looking for new active members who will play and come to mumble often, rather than looking for more members to make staff? no offense Will or kyhas.

Post subject:  Re: A Bunch of Changes... (and a bunch of text)

So you'd rather people caused more issues then Wynney? Rather than taking an amicable approach and leaving so they themselves don't act like a tard as I said before. It works both ways.

Some people intend to annoy, or bait a response out of others. If that means the person being baited moves away from the baiter, surely that's a good thing?

I don't understand how it's insulting to someone, someone else moving to a channel when they're not being spoken too or when they want some quiet or want to play a game that everyone else isn't playing.

@Above, around 10 or so people use mumble pretty much daily. I'm also pretty sure that other members talk to each other on steam a lot too. We currently can't afford to expand, so that's not really what we are looking for right now. We've finally found a little bit of stability.
