I think that... the voting system is a bit off. But for once the next couple of days might be interesting. Let's hope we're not screwed over too badly.

TBH, while first past the post is bad as it means people's votes don't count, it's still probably better than proportional representation, as otherwise we'd always end up with a hung parliament, which could be a bad thing. I'll wait to see how this parliament works before passing most judgement.

Personally I think the House of Commons should be left as-is (FPTP) and the House of Lords should be changed to proportional representation, with the members being intellects of the country (scientists, engineers, accountants, businessmen, people that can bring good viewpoints in on debate) chosen by the parties proportionally.

As for voting, I didn't, I felt that none of the parties accurately represented my views. If anything, I would have probably gone Conservative if anything (/me dons flamesuit) as we probably do need a change and I disagree massively with most of the Lib Dem policies (except scrapping the DEB). Didn't really do enough research to do an educated vote, though.

I voted Lib Dem because at a quick skim over it was the lesser of 3 big evils.

Gloucester's gone from Labour to Conservative. Which if the Labour propaganda is to be believed this is what Gloucester has coming.

• Knock down the new hospital and build up the old one
• Knock down the leisure centre and leave it in disrepair
• Put most of the city into unemployment
• Generally f*ck sh*t up.

Of course, this might not actually happen.

Well I disagreed with Lib Dems on many factors:
Trident
Nuclear Power (they don't want to build any more because it takes too long or something)
Immigration
And probably some more.

Also, never believe opposition party propaganda. I was actually quite impressed with the Conservatives here, they didn't slag off Labour that much, more presented their own case, which is actually what I wanted to see. Labour were quite slaggy off and Lib Dems sent very little.

How can conservative be the lesser evil when they want to increase spending and can't explain where they're getting the money from? Yet alone additionally the tax the upper tax bracket less which means they are getting LESS money from taxes to spend... Not to mention the fact the country is in a budget deficit (as it always will be seeing as we rely on imports).

People say change is good, what exactly is wrong with the country at the moment? I would love someone to explain this. Although many people will be like "don't like Gordon Brown" which I guess is fair enough (until you look at the fact Cameron will be in power instead).

We're fortunate conservatives will not have a clear majority even if they get the support of smaller parties to get a minority parliament. Means they can't do anything they want. Nothing will change from now apart from stuff parties all agree on (which is nothing as they're all ignorant idiots who just disagree with what other person says). Cameron has spent the whole time bashing Labour without any real facts rather than talk about conservative policies. I dunno how he could do anything more worrying?

As for the EU comment, I don't understand that whatsoever. You realise we are a) already in the EU and b) rely on it heavilly for imports, freedom of movement of workers etc?.

The lib dems said it would be an idea to move to the Euro in the future by no means was that confirmed as definite. Would rather avoid being part of the euro myself but purely for economic reasons such as being able to control our interest rates and monetary flow. Please at least read into some things before you post, the EU thing alone outraged me enough to have this huge rant.

According to their manifesto there will be "cuts to wasteful spending in many other departmental budgets." It also has a list of areas where they plan to make additional savings.



The fact that national debt is incredibly high, that immigration is very high, that services such as prisons are overloaded?

End rant for wynney, i went on what i knew which wasn;t much and i wasn;t convinced enough before i voted to change my desicion. end of . criticise conservatives all you like but not my opinions thank you.

The thing is I believe what these posters say is in fact true. Also, these are not really personal attacks as such, they're an attack on what is going on.

General:

My constituency is now Conservative with a 3500 majority, was Labour previously.

As for Gordon Brown, I think he's actually done a fairly decent job, but like with all governments in this country, we switch every ~15 years who's in power. It's basically one government starts well, fixes problems then other stuff goes wrong and then it switches to the other party, repeat. It's also worth noting that the stuff that goes wrong is typically not largely the governments fault, our current economic situation is a worldwide thing, but our recovery is actually pretty good, steady but slow, AFAIK.

As for the posters, that always happens, and it goes both ways. To be fair, the only reason there's so many anti Labour posters is because there's so many Conservative posters in general, at least where I am (I haven't actually seen a Labour billboard, but 2 or 3 local billboards have cycled through various Conservative posters for over a month).

National debt is high yes, explain how conservative plans to cut this. They are going to cut spending due to "labour waste" which explains absolutely nothing at all. Sure, you could cut from other places like they say they will but they've also promised to increased spending in the armed forces.

The fact is the whole WORLD struggled recently, not just the UK. And in fact many of the UK's problems could be traced back to Thatcher in the first place arguably . Though I'm not doing that here, I think Thatcher did some right at the time.

And you're entitled to your opinion, but at least back it up with facts rather than some wishy washy statement about the EU which is completely wrong. The same for all the ignorant who voted BNP then saying "I'm entitled to an opinion". Are you kidding me? If you want to state your opinion without it being question back it up with something, don't just fall back to the it's my opinion argument.

As for the immigration thing, every party has stated that it's high. The conservatives want to simply CAP rather than have a flexible policy of allowing skilled workers in. This country highly benefits from immigration. Anyone who argues against this is absolutely deluded.

And you don't even say how "immigration is high". What kind of immigration? To UK from EU? From R.O.W to UK? Explain more. Because if you're going on about EU then conservatives won't even change that as they don't intend to leave the EU (oh and you voted conservative stating something about EU being something you don't want etc.).


You're entitled to explain conservative, when you can't even explain why or fail to discuss flaws in EVERY (im not saying any party is pefect here) party then as far as I'm concerned you shouldn't be entitled to a vote.

wishy washy statement? i never said anything about my statement was even fact, let alone a reason i voted them in. i voted conservative for no better reason than i was not convinced into voting for another party in the alloted time before i voted. Also, while I agree that people should read up and be educated before voting, it would result in an incredibly low turnout if it was required.

Out of 650 seats (326 required for a majority), numbers in brackets represent the change from the last election:
Conservative 306 (+97)
Labour 258 (-91)
Lib Dem 57 (-5)

Note that 1 constituency still hasn't voted, as the UKIP(?) candidate died about a week ago, so the election has been delayed until the end of the month.

This is one of the largest swings to Conservatives in a long time, since 1930 AFAIK. Interestingly, the Lib Dems actually did worse in this election, even though they had a pretty good campaign and got more of the overall vote than before.

Also, there was a turnout of ~30mil, which is 65% of the eligible public, one of the highest turnouts of recent times, I believe the highest it's been since 1992 (78%).

And 4 days later we actually have a new PM - David Cameron. Sounds like they've gone full coalition with the Lib Dems (first coalition government in 70 years, first Con-Lib ever), meaning that the Lib Dems will be getting a fair few cabinet seats and a fair whack of say in the goings on, but will still be heavily outnumbered by the Conservatives.
